TEMPORARY TRAFFIC REGULATION ORDERS 2023
Sunderland City Council gives notice that it intends to make two Orders under Section 14(1) of the Road Traffic Regulation Act 1984, the effect of which will be to temporarily prohibit pedestrians along the footpaths in Schedule 1 and all traffic along the carriageways in the Schedule 2. The Orders are required to enable excavation for new fibre works to take place in or near the footpaths and carriageways. The Orders will come into operation on 23rd May 2023. The maximum duration of the closure under the Orders will be 6 months for the footpaths and 18 months for the carriageways, however it is estimated that when each closure takes place it will only be for an approximate duration of 1 to 7 days. All pedestrians will be prohibited from the footpaths (except personnel involved in the works) and all traffic will be prohibited from the carriageways (except vehicles and personnel involved in the works) until the works are completed or at such times and to such extent as may from time to time be indicated by the display of traffic signs. An exemption for emergency services on emergency call will be provided and access for affected residents will be maintained. Alternative routes will be provided via the adjacent highway network.
