What is happening?

THE COUNCIL OF THE CITY OF SUNDERLAND SECTIONS 90A AND 90C HIGHWAYS ACT 1980 –
ROAD HUMP NOTICE - PROPOSED CONSTRUCTION OF SPEED TABLE – HIGHFIELD

ACADEMY, FORDFIELD ROAD, SUNDERLAND

Notice is hereby given that the Council of the City of Sunderland in exercise of its powers under Section 90A of the Highways Act 1980 and after consultation in accordance with Section 90C of the Highways Act 1980 proposes to construct road humps complying with the Highways (Road Humps) Regulations 1999 as a traffic calming measure to reduce vehicle speeds at the Highfield Academy junction with Fordfield Road, Sunderland. The current speed limit on the above length of road is 20mph. The road humps are in the form of a speed table which is a raised section of the carriageway, designed to control vehicle speeds. The locations, nature and dimensions and location of the proposed speed table is as follows: Location: Fordfield Road - Centred at a point 10.0 metres east of the extended party property boundary of 109 & 111 Fordfield Road. Unnamed access road to Highfield Academy - Centred at a point 1.2 metres north of the extended northern highway boundary of Fordfield Road.
Dimensions: The speed table will have the following dimensions: Overall Width: Full width of carriageway; Length: 20000 mm; On/off Gradient: 1:20; Plateau Length: 16000 mm; Max Height: 100 mm.
The plan and statement of reasons for the above proposed road humps may be inspected during normal opening hours at City Hall, Plater Way, Sunderland SR1 3AA, until the end of the consultation period. An electronic copy of the documents can also be obtained by emailing: statutoryorders@sunderland.gov.uk. Objections to the proposed speed table must be made in writing to E. Waugh, Assistant Director of Law and Governance, City Hall, Plater Way, Sunderland SR1 3AA or via email at: statutoryorders@sunderland.gov.uk on or before the 28th March 2023 and any objection must state the grounds on which it is made.
