What is happening?

THE COUNCIL OF THE CITY OF SUNDERLAND
SECTIONS 90A AND 90C HIGHWAYS ACT 1980

Notice is hereby given that the Council of the City of Sunderland in exercise of its powers under Section
90A of the Highways Act 1980 and after consultation in accordance with Section 90C of the Highways
Act 1980 proposes to construct two road humps complying with the Highways (Road Humps)
Regulations 1999 as traffic calming measures to reduce vehicle speeds at Redhill Road and at the
junction of Redcar Road with Radlett Road, Sunderland. The current speed limit on the above lengths of
road is 20mph. The road humps are in the form of speed tables which are raised sections of the
carriageway, designed to control vehicle speeds. The locations, nature and dimensions and location of
the proposed speed tables are as follows: -
Location 1: Redhill Road from the centre of the carriageway, at a point 13.4 metres north-west of the extended
party property boundary of 6 & 7 Rochdale Way.
Dimensions This speed table will have the following dimensions: - 
Overall Width:  Full width of Carriageway; Length: 16000 mm; On/off Gradient: 1:20; Plateau Length:
12000 mm; Max Height:  100 mm  
Location 2: (i) Redhill Road from the centre of the carriageway, at a point 23.0 metres west of the extended
party property boundary of 2 & 4 Redcar Road; and (ii) Radlett Road from the centre of the carriageway, at a
point 16.3 metres north of the extended party property boundary of 1 & 3 Radlett Road.
Dimensions This speed table will have the following dimensions: - 
Overall Width:  Full width of carriageway; Length: 22300 mm; On/off Gradient: 1:20; Plateau
Length:18300 mm; Max Height:  100 mm  
The plan and statement of reasons for the above proposed speed tables may be inspected during normal
opening hours at City Hall, Plater Way, Sunderland SR1 3AA, until the end of the consultation period. An
electronic copy of the documents can also be obtained by emailing: statutoryorders@sunderland.gov.uk.
Objections to the proposed speed tables must be made in writing to E. Waugh, Assistant Director of Law
and Governance, City Hall, Plater Way, Sunderland SR1 3AA or via email at:
statutoryorders@sunderland.gov.uk on or before the 22 nd March 2023 and any objection must state the
grounds on which it is made. Please quote reference: PB/81825 in all correspondence.
