What is happening?
Sunderland City Council gives notice that on 24th February 2023 it made two Orders under Section 14(1) of the Road Traffic Regulation Act 1984, the effect of which will be to temporarily prohibit pedestrians along the footpaths and footways and vehicles, cyclists and horses along the roads in the Schedule

TEMPORARY TRAFFIC REGULATION ORDERS 2023
Sunderland City Council gives notice that on 24th February 2023 it made two Orders under Section 14(1) of the Road Traffic Regulation Act 1984, the effect of which will be to temporarily prohibit pedestrians along the footpaths and footways and vehicles, cyclists and horses along the roads in the Schedule. The Orders are required to enable cabling works to take place in or near the footpaths, roads and footways. The Orders will come into operation on 11th March 2023. The maximum duration of the closure under the Orders will be 6 months for the footpaths and 18 months for the roads and footways, however it is estimated that all the works will be completed in 13 weeks with each closure only being in operation for approximately 2 to 7 days. All pedestrians will be prohibited from the footpaths and footways (except personnel involved in the works) and all vehicles, cyclists and horses will be prohibited from the roads (except vehicles and machinery involved in the works), until the works are completed or at such times and to such extent as may from time to time be indicated by the display of traffic signs. Access will be maintained for residents outside working hours. Alternative routes will be provided via the adjacent highway network.
