A259 and A2070 Trunk Road Temporary Traffic Restrictions - National Highways

A259 AND A2070 TRUNK ROADS
TEMPORARY TRAFFIC RESTRICTIONS
Notice is hereby given that National Highways has made an Order on the A259 and A2070 Trunk Roads in the Counties of East Sussex and Kent, under Sections 14(1)(a) and 14(1)(c) of the Road Traffic Regulation Act 1984 because works are proposed to be executed on the road.
The effect of the Order is to: -
1. authorise the overnight closure (in sections) of –
(a) both carriageways of the A259 between Pevensey Roundabout and a point 160 metres west of the centreline of the junction with Bexleigh Avenue in St Leonards-On-Sea;
(b) both carriageways of the A259 between a point 55 metres east of the junction with Mill Lane, Hastings, and Brenzett Roundabout;
(c) both carriageways of the A2070 between Brenzett Roundabout and Park Farm Roundabout;
(d) both carriageways of the A2070 and the A2042 between the Flanders Field roundabout and the M20 Junction 10 Roundabout, and the slip and link roads leading to and from them;
(e) any roundabout within the lengths of carriageway described in 1. (a) to (d);
(f) access to and from any side road at junction with the lengths of carriageway described in 1. (a) to (d) above;
(g) any bus stop or lay-by adjacent to the lengths of carriageway described in 1.
(a) to (d) above; and
(h) any gap between the lengths of carriageway described in 1. (a) to (d) above, and any dedicated lane used for the purpose of turning through them.
2. to impose, in sections as required, an overnight ban on overtaking on both carriageways of the A259 and A2070 where it is currently permitted on the length of carriageway described in 1. (a) to (d) above.
These measures will be in the interests of road safety while contractors undertake maintenance and renewal work of a cyclical nature and A259 and A2070 project works.
The duration of each closure will vary depending on the nature of the maintenance work being undertaken on each occasion. The programme of works will start on or after 3rd January 2023.
The overnight closures will be in operation between 20:00 and 06:00 (maximum period).
Planned maintenance work will be scheduled to avoid disruption during known peak periods, although essential maintenance may be necessary during these periods to prevent the need for emergency works. In such cases less disruptive options will be considered.
The Order will come into force on 2nd January 2023 and shall remain in force until 24th December 2023.
During the closures, traffic affected will be diverted using other junctions of the A259 and A2070, or by using the A259, A269, A2042, A2690, B2075, B2093, B2095, Avenue Jacques Faucheux, Hamstreet Road, Ashford Road, Camber Road, New Lydd Road, Lydd Road, Tourney Road, Robin Hood Lane. Harden Road, and Romney Road. The diversion in operation will vary according to the closure in force, and the diversion routes listed above are the agreed routes, but these may change depending on local conditions.
Access to and from premises accessible from, and only from, the lengths of carriageway to be closed will be permitted under escort.
The temporary closures, overtaking bans and diversion routes will be clearly indicated by traffic signs when they are in operation during the works periods.
