Temporary Closure of West Street and Abbey Street

Somerset Council in exercise of its powers under Section 14 (1) of the Road Traffic Regulation Act 1984 as amended, propose to make an Order prohibiting all traffic from proceeding along: West Street - from 47 metres south-west of the junction with Church Street, south-westwards for a distance of 57 metres; and Abbey Street - from the junction with West Street, southwards for a distance of 28 metres. A total distance of 85 metres.

This Order will enable Circet UK to carry out ducting works on behalf of Openreach.

The Order becomes effective on 18th November 2026 and will remain in force for 18 months. The works are expected to commence on 23rd November 2026 and last until 23rd November 2026 between the hours of 08:00 - 18:00 for a total of 10 hours.

Statement of Reasons for making the Order

a) because works are being or are proposed to be executed on or near the road; or

b) because of the likelihood of danger to the public, or of serious damage to the road, which is not attributable to such works.
