TEMPORARY TRAFFIC REGULATION ORDER 2026
Stockton-on-Tees Borough Council propose to make an Order under Section 14(1) of the Road Traffic Regulation Act 1984 not less than seven days from the date hereof, the Highway Authority being satisfied that the restrictions are required because of the likelihood of danger to the public, or of serious damage to the road, which is not attributable to such works.
The effect of the Order, which will come into effect on 29th October 2026, will be to temporarily close various lengths of roads within the Borough, at such times as traffic management signs may be erected to notify users of the closures.
The Order will also have the effect of creating temporary clearways on various lengths of roads, suspending certain reserved parking spaces and Hackney Carriage stands, temporarily suspending an existing no right turn restriction, and temporarily closing the Millennium Footbridge, Infinity Footbridge and Bishop Street Footbridge. The restrictions and roads affected are specified in the draft Order and plan, which can be viewed on the Council’s website (Traffic Orders).
It is expected that the restrictions will be in place between approximately 29th October 2026 and 3rd November 2026. The Order may continue in force for a maximum period of eighteen months in respect of the road traffic restrictions and six months in respect of the footbridge closures. Pedestrian and Emergency Access will be maintained, except where access cannot be permitted for safety reasons.
Bus services may be affected, and temporary traffic management arrangements will be in operation throughout the event.
Dated 22nd October 2026
