22 October 2026
Canterbury City Council is consulting on a draft Taxi and Private Hire Vehicle Licensing Policy.
The council’s current Taxi and Private Hire Vehicle Licensing Policy is being reviewed to ensure it reflects current legislation, guidance and local licensing requirements.
The draft policy includes a number of proposed updates, including disability awareness training requirements, online application processes, adoption of updated Institute of Licensing guidance and the introduction of a penalty points scheme.
We invite comments from taxi and private hire licence holders, trade representatives, responsible authorities, residents, businesses and any other interested parties.
The consultation will run for 12 weeks and closes at 9am on Monday 11 January 2027. All comments must be received by this deadline.
The draft policy and consultation questionnaire can be viewed and completed online through the council’s Have Your Say consultation portal at haveyoursay.canterbury.gov.uk
The consultation can be found in the Latest consultation section of the website.
Copies of the draft policy can also be provided on request.
If you are unable to complete the online questionnaire, comments may also be submitted to Policy Team, Canterbury City Council, 14 Rose Lane, Canterbury, CT1 2UR or by email to consultations@canterbury.gov.uk
Following the consultation, all responses will be considered before a final version of the policy is presented to councillors for consideration and adoption.
