THE A487 TRUNK ROAD (NEWPORT, PEMBROKESHIRE) (40 MPH SPEED LIMIT) ORDER 202-

THE WELSH MINISTERS propose to make an Order in exercise of their powers under sections 84(1)(a), 84(2) and 124(3)(a) of the Road Traffic Regulation Act 1984.

The effect of the proposed Order will be to introduce a permanent 40 mph speed limit on the length of the A487 Fishguard to Bangor trunk road (“the trunk road”) that extends from a point 384 metres east of the centre-point of its junction with Feidr Brenin to a point 85 metres west of the centre-point of its junction with Ffordd Bedd Morris at Newport, Pembrokeshire.

The introduction of the 40 mph speed limit is needed to improve road safety by creating a buffer zone between the length of the trunk road which is subject to a 60 mph national speed limit and the 20 mph speed limit through the town of Newport.

During a period of 21 days from 14 October 2026, a copy of the proposed Order, the Statement of Reasons for making the Order and the plan may be inspected, free of charge, at Fishguard Library, Town Hall, Market Square, Fishguard SA65 9HA.

The documents can also be viewed on the Welsh Government’s website at https://gov.wales/road-orders or obtained free of charge by e-mailing TransportOrdersBranch@gov.wales or writing to Orders Branch at the address below, quoting reference number qA2432746.

Objections, specifying the grounds on which they are made, must be sent by e-mail to TransportOrdersBranch@gov.wales or in writing to Orders Branch, Transport, Welsh Government, Cathays Park, Cardiff CF10 3NQ by 4 November 2026.

Should you wish to object, support or make representations, we may need to consult with people and organisations outside of the Welsh Government. As part of the consultation process, we may pass information to them, including information you have given us and your personal data. We will, however, only disclose your personal details where it is necessary to do so to address the issues raised. If you do not wish personal data to be forwarded to third parties, you should state this when submitting your correspondence and the Welsh Government will copy the representations to the appropriate third parties with the name and address removed. If there is to be a local Public Inquiry, the representations will be seen by the Inspector who may give them less weight as a result.
