Vale of White Horse - Temporary Road Closures for Abingdon Airfield Funfair and Fireworks

OXFORDSHIRE COUNTY COUNCIL

(ST HELENS WITHOUT PARISH) (ABINGDON AIRFIELD FUNFAIR AND FIREWORKS EVENT) (TEMPORARY TRAFFIC MANAGEMENT) ORDER 2026

NOTICE is hereby given that on 9 November 2026 Oxfordshire County Council proposes to make the above Order under Section 16A of the Road Traffic Regulation Act 1984.

This Order is to facilitate the holding of the Abingdon Funfair and Fireworks event at Abingdon Airfield which is promoted by Sarah-Jane Evans, Event Support Team Ltd, Unit 2, School Lane, Exhall, Coventry, CV7 9GF.

The aim of the Order is to manage traffic attending the event. From 8:00am 14 November parking and loading will be prohibited; and from midday roads will also be closed until 1:00am Sunday 15 November as follows:

Faringdon Road (Gozzards Ford) between Sheepstead Road and the A415 Marcham Road;

Blackhorse Lane between Faringdon Road and Cothill Road;

Barrow Road between Faringdon Road (Gozzards Ford) and Abingdon Road (Shippon);

Faringdon Road (Shippon) from Barrow Road to Cholswell Road; and east of Cholswell Road

Cholswell Road between Faringdon Road and Long Tow;

Long Tow, between Cholswell Road and Wootton Road;

Honeybottom Lane between Whitecross (B4017) and Church Lane;

Green Lane between Honeybottom Lane and Church Lane.

Spring Road, Abingdon entire length, from the double mini roundabouts at its southern end to the roundabout with Faringdon Road (No Waiting/No Loading/No Unloading only).

Marshals will be used to assist with managing pedestrian and vehicle ingress and egress to the event and for junction and direction controls.

Alternative routes for traffic affected by the closure are: Lashford Lane, Church Lane, Cothill Road, Sheepstead Road, North Street, A415 Marcham Road, Spring Road, Faringdon Road, B4017 Wootton Road, B4017 Whitecross, B4017 Lamborough Hill, Besselsleigh Road and vice versa.

Non-event traffic and Shippon residents are signed from the Spring Road roundabout via Long Tow.

Exemptions are included for emergency services and essential utility works. Access will be managed for residents and businesses and for vehicles authorised by the event organiser or traffic management contractor – event traffic to and from Abingdon Airfield, taxi and private hire vehicles using the Pick Up & Drop Off system, and organiser and EST operational vehicles.
