What is happening?
SANDWELL METROPOLITAN BOROUGH COUNCIL
The Borough Council of Sandwell (Charlemont Road, West Bromwich) (Temporary Footpath Closure) Order 2026 intends to temporarily prohibit pedestrians & cyclists from proceeding via the footpath across the railway level crossing point at Charlemont Road. A pedestrian/cycle diversion route will be signed via Wigmore Lane, Tompstone Road & Ednam Close. The maximum duration is 6 months, but the work is expected to be completed by 16/04/2027, effective from 16/10/2026 (24hr). Purpose – to facilitate access for near-miss investigations & the implementation of any identified infrastructure improvements by Network Rail.
