Hunstanworth - Temporary Footpath Closure due to Bridge Repair Works
What is happening?
The County Council of Durham (Public Rights of Way, Footpath Number 9 Hunstanworth Parish (Gibraltar Ford Footbridge), Hunstanworth) (Temporary Footpath Closure) Order 2026
The Council on 2/10/2026 made the above Order under Section 14(1) of the Road Traffic Regulation Act 1984 as amended, to prohibit all pedestrian traffic from proceeding on the following length of footpath. A 24 metre length of Footpath No. 9, Hunstanworth from the start Gibraltar Ford footbridge, in a northerly direction to where it meets the boundary with Northumberland County Council to enable bridge repair works to be undertaken. There will be no alternative route available to pedestrian traffic. The maximum duration of the Order is 6 months. The works commenced under urgent 21-day Temporary Traffic Regulation Notice on 16/9/2026 and now require extending from 8/10/2026, for approximately 6 months. On occasions, alternative dates for the closure may be necessary and these will be signed on site accordingly.
