Croydon - Temporary Traffic Restrictions & Road Closures Due To Drainage Works

Public Notice - Road Traffic Regulation Act 1984 - The A23 GLA Road (London Road/Purley Way, London Borough of Croydon) (Temporary Prohibition of Traffic and Stopping) Order 2026

1. Transport For London in consultation with THE LONDON BOROUGH OF CROYDON hereby gives notice that it intends to make the above-named Traffic Order under section 14(1) of the Road Traffic Regulation Act 1984 for the purpose specified in paragraph 2. The effect of the Order is summarised in paragraph 3.

2. The purpose of the Order is to enable drainage works to take place on the A23 GLA Road – London Road and Purley Way in the London Borough of Croydon.

3. The effect of the Order will be to prohibit any vehicle from:
(1) stopping on London Road between No.1542 London Road and its junction with Winterbourne Road;
(2) stopping on Acacia Road between its junction with London Road and No.1 Acacia Road;
(3) entering or exiting Acacia Road at its junction with London Road, local access will be maintained;
(4) stopping on Norbury Avenue between its junction with London Road and No.328 Norbury Avenue;
(5) stopping on Fairview Road between its junctions with London Road and Scott Close;
(6) stopping on St Helen’s Road between its junctions with London Road and St Helen’s Crescent;
(7) stopping on Stanford Road between its junction with London Road and No.1d Stanford Road;
(8) entering or exiting St Helen’s Road at its junction with London Road;
(9) stopping on Semley Road between its junction with London Road and No.2 Semley Road;
(10) entering or exiting Craignish Avenue at its junction with London Road;
(11) stopping on Tylecroft Road between its junction with London Road and No.1 Tylecroft Road;
(12) entering Craignish Avenue at its junction with Dunbar Avenue, local access will be maintained;
(13) stopping on Craignish Avenue between its junction with London Road and No.1 Craignish Avenue;
(14) entering or exiting Tylecroft Road at its junction with London Road;
(15) stopping on Northborough Road between its junction with London Road and No.2 Northborough Road;
(16) entering or exiting Northborough Road at its junction with London Road;
(17) entering Northborough Road at its junction with Palmers Road, local access will be maintained;
(18) stopping on Norbury Court Road between its junction with London Road and No.1b Norbury Court Road;
(19) entering or exiting Norbury Court Road at its junction with London Road;
(20) stopping on Beatrice Avenue between its junction with London Road and No.2a Beatrice Avenue;
(21) entering or exiting Beatrice Avenue at its junction with London Road;
(22) entering Norbury Court Road at its junction with Beech Road, local access will be maintained;
(23) entering Beatrice Avenue at its junction with Beech Road, local access will be maintained;
(24) stopping on Pollards Hill North between its junction with London Road and No.2a Pollards Hill North;
(25) entering or exiting Pollards Hill North at its junction with London Road;
(26) entering Pollards Hill North at its junction with Beech Road, local access will be maintained;
(27) entering, exiting, proceeding or stopping on Ederline Avenue between its junctions with London Road and Kintyre Close;
(28) entering Ederline Avenue at its junction with Ardfern Avenue, local access will be maintained;
(29) stopping on Melrose Avenue between its junction with London Road and No.1a Melrose Avenue;
(30) entering or exiting Melrose Avenue at its junction with London Road;
(31) entering Melrose Avenue at its junction with Ardfern Avenue, local access will be maintained;
(32) entering or exiting Kilmartin Avenue at its junction with London Road;
(33) entering Kilmartin Avenue at its junction with Ardfern Avenue, local access will be maintained;
(34) stopping on Somerset Gardens between London Road and the western building line of Nos.4 to 6 Somerset Gardens;
(35) stopping on Pollards Hill South between its junction with London Road and No.1 Pollards Hill South;
(36) entering or exiting Pollards Hill South at its junction with London Road;
(37) entering Pollards Hill South at its junction with Pollards Hill East, local access will be maintained;
(38) stopping on Strathyre Avenue between its junction with London Road and No.1 Strathyre Avenue;
(39) entering or exiting Strathyre Avenue at its junction with London Road;
(40) entering Strathyre Avenue at its junction with Ardfern Avenue, local access will be maintained;
(41) entering or exiting Wharfdale Gardens at its junction with London Road;
(42) entering Wharfdale Gardens at its junction with Lonsdale Gardens, local access will be maintained;
(43) stopping on Galpin’s Road between its junction with London Road and No.6 Galpin’s Road;
(44) stopping on Warwick Road between its junction with London Road and No.1 Warwick Road;
(45) entering or exiting Headcorn Road at its junction with London Road;
(46) entering Headcorn Road at its junction with Goldwell Road, local access will be maintained;
(47) entering or exiting Oaklands Avenue at its junction with London Road;
(48) entering Oaklands Avenue at its junction with Goston Gardens, local access will be maintained;
(49) stopping on Headcorn Avenue between its junction with London Road and No.2 Headcorn Avenue;
(50) stopping on Leander Road between its junction with London Road and No.2 Leander Road;
(51) turning left from Purley Way northbound into Stafford Road south westbound;
(52) entering or proceeding in a southerly direction on Purley Way between Denning Avenue and Propeller Crescent;
(53) stopping on Purley Way between its junctions with Denning Avenue and Foxley Lane/Russell Hill Road;
(54) turning right from Purley Way northbound into Coldharbour Road;
(55) turning right from Coldharbour Road into Purley Way northbound;
(56) turning right from the Wing Yip Superstore Entrance into Purley Way southbound;
(57) entering or exiting Foss Avenue at its junction with Purley Way;
(58) entering Foss Avenue at its junctions with Barrow Road/Cold Harbour Way/Crowley Crescent, local access will be maintained;
(59) entering, exiting, proceeding or stopping on Imperial Way between its junctions with Purley Way and No.4 Imperial Way, local access will be maintained via Marshalls;
(60) entering, exiting or proceeding on Waddon Way between its junctions with Purley Way and the extended eastern building line of No.120 Waddon Way;
(61) entering or proceeding on the link road (opposite No.29 Imperial Way) connecting Purley Way southbound and Purley Way northbound;
(62) entering or proceeding on the unnamed northbound slip road between the northbound carriageway of Purley Way and the Colonnades Shopping Centre;

The Order Will Also:
(63) permit all vehicles to use the northbound bus lanes on London Road between its junctions with Pollards Hill North and Colmer Road;
(64) permit all vehicles to use the northbound bus lanes on Purley Way between its junctions with Waddon Way and Denning Avenue.

During these works in the London Lorry Control Scheme restrictions will be suspended on the affected sections of the diversion routes.

Works will be phased as such that not all restrictions may apply at any one time.

The Order will be effective between the dates of 26th October 2026 and 26th April 2027 every night 9:00 PM to 5:00 AM or when the works have been completed whichever is the sooner. The prohibitions will apply only during such times and to such extent as shall from time to time be indicated by traffic signs.

4. The prohibitions will not apply in respect of:
(1) any vehicle being used for the purposes of those works or for fire brigade, ambulance or police purposes;
(2) anything done with the permission or at the direction of a police constable in uniform or a person authorised by Transport for London.

5. At such times as the prohibitions are in force an alternative route will be indicated by traffic signs.

For St Helen’s Road from London Road northbound via: London Road northbound and Norbury Crescent to normal route of travel,

For St Helen’s Road from London Road southbound via: London Road southbound, Brigstock Road, Melford Road and Norbury Crescent to normal route of travel.

For Craignish Avenue from London Road northbound via: London Road northbound, Norbury Crescent, Ederline Avenue and Dalmeny Avenue to normal route of travel.

For Craignish Avenue from London Road southbound via: London Road southbound, Ederline Avenue and Dalmeny Avenue to normal route of travel.

For Tylecroft Road from London Road northbound via: Semley Road, Hatch Road and Bavant Road to normal route of travel.

For Tylecroft Road from London Road southbound via: Northborough Road and Bavant Road to normal route of travel.

For Northborough Road from London Road northbound via: London Road northbound, Tylecroft Road and Palmers Road to normal route of travel.

For Northborough Road from London Road southbound via: London Road southbound, Norbury Court Road and Norbury Cross to normal route of travel.

For Norbury Court Road/Beatrice Avenue from London Road southbound via: London Road southbound, Pollards Hill North and Beech Road to normal route of travel.

For Norbury Court Road/Beatrice Avenue from London Road northbound via: London Road northbound, Northborough Road, Norbury Cross, Norbury Court Road and Beech Road to normal route of travel.

For Pollards Hill North from London Road northbound via: London Road northbound, Beatrice Avenue and Beech Road to normal route of travel.

For Pollards Hill North from London Road southbound via: London Road southbound, Pollards Hill South and Pollards Hill West to normal route of travel.

For Ederline Avenue from London Road southbound via: London Road southbound, Melrose Avenue and Ardfern Avenue to normal route of travel.

For Ederline Avenue from London Road northbound via: London Road northbound, Craignish Avenue and Dunbar Avenue to normal route of travel.
