THE A66 TRUNK ROAD (SMALLWAYS TO BROWSON BANK) (TEMPORARY RESTRICTION AND PROHIBITION OF TRAFFIC)
NOTICE IS HEREBY GIVEN that National Highways intends to make an order on the A66 Trunk Road, in North Yorkshire, because of barrier repair replacement works to be carried out in safety.
The works are expected to start at 8pm on Monday 2 November 2026 for 5 nights, or until completed, and will take place between 8pm and 6am.
The effect of the Notice will be, between 8pm and 6am, at times during the works, to impose a temporary;
(i) 40mph speed restriction on the A66 eastbound carriageway from 830 metres east of the unnamed road for Thorpe Farm Holiday Park to 1170 metres east of Browson Bank Junction, a distance of 4130 metres;
(ii) 40mph speed restriction on the A66 westbound carriageway from 4800 metres west of the B6274 Junction to 180 metres east of Smallways Junction, a distance of 2260 metres;
(iii) 10mph speed restriction on the A66 eastbound carriageway from 830 metres east of the unnamed road for Thorpe Farm Holiday Park to 1170 metres east of Browson Bank Junction, a distance of 4130 metres;
(iv) 10mph speed restriction on the A66 westbound carriageway from 4800 metres west of the B6274 Junction to 180 metres east of Smallways Junction, a distance of 2260 metres;
The 10mph limit will only apply when, for safety reasons, traffic has to be escorted through the works by a highway maintenance vehicle.
It will also be necessary between 8pm and 6am, at times during the works, to:
(i) close the gap in the central reservation at Browson Bank Junction.
During the closures suitably signed alternative routes will be available at all times.
Traffic signs will indicate the extent of the restrictions (which will not apply to emergency service vehicles or special forces vehicles) and prohibitions (which will not apply to emergency service vehicles or vehicles being used in connection with the said works or winter maintenance purposes). The Order comes into force on 1 November 2026 and has a maximum duration of eighteen months.
