Durham - Temporary Road Closures and One-Way Suspension for Resurfacing Works
What is happening?
The County Council of Durham (Sutton Street, Waddington Street, Redhills Lane and Flass Street, Durham) (Temporary Road Closure and Suspension) Order 2026
The Council proposes to make an Order under Section 14(1) of the Road Traffic Regulation Act 1984 as amended, to prohibit all vehicular traffic from proceeding on the following lengths of road.
A 170 metre length of Sutton Street between A690 and the junction with Bridge Street/Lambton Street;
A 50 metre length of Waddington Street extending north west from its junction with Sutton Street and
A 560 metre length of Flass Street and Redhills Lane between the junctions with Sutton Street and St Monica Grove to enable carriageway resurfacing works to be undertaken.
It will also be necessary to suspend the one-way restriction on Redhills Lane to maintain resident access as detailed in The County Council of Durham (Unclassified Redhills Lane, Durham City) (One Way restriction and revocation) Order 2025.
An alternative route will be available to vehicular traffic from the eastern side of the closure, from North Road/A690 westerly via A690 to Nevilles Cross, north on A167 and east onto Redhills Lane, to the western side of the closure and vice versa.
The maximum duration of the Order is 18 months.
The proposed works are required from Saturday 24/10/2026 for 9 days. Sutton Street will be closed Saturdays and Sundays, 8am-4pm, with Flass Street and Redhills Lane closed 9am-3pm Monday to Friday. On occasions, alternative dates for the closure may be necessary and these will be signed on site accordingly.
