York - Multiple Temporary Road Closures and Parking Suspensions due to Works
What is happening?
TEMPORARY TRAFFIC RESTRICTIONS
Notice is hereby given that City of York Council (the Council), in exercise of powers under Sections 14(1) & 15(8) of the Road Traffic Regulation Act 1984 (the Act), on Thursday, 08 October 2026 in respect of the locations numbered (1), (2), (3), (4), (5), (6), (7) & (8). Furthermore, the Council, not less than 7 days from the publication of this Notice, intends to make an Order under Section 14(1) of the Act in respect of the locations numbered (9), (10), (11) & (12).
(1) HAXBY ROAD LEVEL CROSSING, HAXBY
This Order prohibits vehicles from proceeding through that length of road at Haxby Road Level Crossing, Haxby (closed road) during the period when railway maintenance works are being undertaken thereon, commencing at 2320hrs on Saturday, 10 October 2026 and ending at 0555hrs on Monday, 12 October 2026 (works period) or at a time when the works have been completed whichever is the earlier. This is to ensure that the said works can be carried out safely. It is envisaged that the road will be closed between 2320hrs on Saturday, 10 October 2026 to 0825hrs on Sunday, 11 October 2026 and between 2320hrs on Sunday, 11 October 2026 to 0555hrs on Monday, 12 October 2026. An alternative route for diverted vehicles will be signed during the works period via York Road, The Village, Mill Lane, Wigginton Road, A1237.
(2) GLEBE AVENUE, ACOMB
This Order prohibits vehicles from proceeding and waiting in that length of road on Glebe Avenue, Acomb between the projected north-western boundary of property No. 8 to its junction with Malvern Avenue (closed roads) during the period when water mains works are being undertaken thereon, commencing at 0800hrs on Monday, 12 October 2026 and ending at 1800hrs on Wednesday, 14 October 2026 (works period) or at a time when the works have been completed whichever is the earlier. This is to ensure that the said works can be carried out safely. An alternative route for diverted vehicles will be signed during the works period via Carr Lane, Boroughbridge Road, Malvern Avenue. It is envisaged that access for resident and emergency vehicles will be maintained throughout the works period.
(3) GRANGE GARTH, FISHERGATE
This Order prohibits vehicles from proceeding and waiting in that length of road on Grange Garth, Fishergate between the projected north-eastern boundary of property No.6 and the projected western boundary of property No.8 (closed roads) during the period when telecoms works are being undertaken thereon, commencing at 0800hrs on Monday, 12 October 2026 and ending at 1800hrs on Friday, 16 October 2026 (works period) or at a time when the works have been completed whichever is the earlier. This is to ensure that the said works can be carried out safely. It is envisaged that access for resident and emergency vehicles will be maintained throughout the works period. An alternative route for diverted vehicles will be signed during the works period via Grange Street, Fulford Road.
(4) LINK AVENUE, CLIFTON
This Order prohibits vehicles from proceeding and waiting in that length of road on Link Avenue, Clifton between its junctions with Burton Stone Lane and Lucas Avenue (closed roads) during the period when telecoms works are being undertaken thereon, commencing at 0800hrs on Monday, 12 October 2026 and ending at 1800hrs on Monday, 19 October 2026 (works period) or at a time when the works have been completed whichever is the earlier. This is to ensure that the said works can be carried out safely. It is envisaged that resident and emergency vehicle access will be maintained throughout the works period. An alternative route for diverted vehicles will be signed during the works period via Burton Stone Lane, Burton Stone Lane, Cromer Street, Rowntree Avenue, Lucas Avenue.
(5) RIVERSIDE WALK, STRENSALL
This Order prohibits vehicles from proceeding and waiting in that length of road on Riverside Walk, Strensall between the projected north-western boundaries of property No’s 12 & 26 (closed roads) during the period when telecoms works are being undertaken thereon, commencing at 0800hrs on Monday, 12 October 2026 and ending at 1800hrs on Wednesday, 21 October 2026 (works period) or at a time when the works have been completed whichever is the earlier. This is to ensure that the said works can be carried out safely. It is envisaged that access for resident and emergency vehicles will be maintained throughout the works period. An alternative route for diverted vehicles will not be signed during the works period.
(6) BALMORAL TERRACE, YORK
This Order prohibits vehicles from proceeding and waiting in that length of road on Balmoral Terrace, York between its junctions with Montague Street and Bishopthorpe Road (closed roads) during the period when gas mains works are being undertaken thereon, commencing at 0800hrs on Monday, 12 October 2026 and ending at 1600hrs on Friday, 16 October 2026 (works period) or at a time when the works have been completed whichever is the earlier. This is to ensure that the said works can be carried out safely. It is envisaged that resident access will be maintained throughout the works period. An alternative route for diverted vehicles will be signed during the works period via Bishopthorpe Road, Campleshon Road, Knavesmire Road, Knavesmire Avenue, Knavesmire Crescent, Queen Victoria Street. Additionally, all ‘on-street’ parking places situated on both sides of Balmoral Terrace, York between its junctions with Montague Street and Bishopthorpe Road (suspension area) will be subject to suspension during the works period.
(7) LOW PETERGATE, YORK
This Order prohibits vehicles from proceeding and waiting in that length of road on Low Petergate, York between its junctions with Duncombe Place and Church Street (closed roads) during the period when water mains works are being undertaken thereon, commencing at 1900hrs on Wednesday, 14 October 2026 and ending at 0600hrs on Thursday, 15 October 2026 (works period) or at a time when the works have been completed whichever is the earlier. This is to ensure that the said works can be carried out safely. An alternative route for diverted vehicles will be signed during the works period via Duncombe Place, Blake Street, Davygate, Church Street. Access for resident and emergency vehicles will be maintained throughout the works period.
(8) POTTERY LANE, STRENSALL
This Order prohibits vehicles from proceeding and waiting in that length of road on Pottery Lane, Strensall between the projected eastern boundary of property known as Oakwood Farm and a point 330 metres east of said boundary (closed roads) during the period when telecoms works are being undertaken thereon, commencing at 1900hrs on Wednesday, 14 October 2026 and ending at 0600hrs on Friday, 16 October 2026 (works period) or at a time when the works have been completed whichever is the earlier. This is to ensure that the said works can be carried out safely. It is envisaged that the road will be closed between 1900hrs and 0600hrs each day of the works period. An alternative route for diverted vehicles will be signed during the works period via Carr Lane, Stillington Road, Moxby Lane, Sheriff Hutton Road. Access for resident and emergency vehicles will be maintained throughout the works period.
(9) BARNFIELD WAY, COPMANTHORPE
This Order will prohibit vehicles from proceeding and waiting in that length of road on Barnfield Way, Copmanthorpe (i) between the projected north-eastern boundaries of property No’s 12 & 16 and (ii) between the projected north-eastern boundary of property No 29 and a location 14 metres west of said boundary (closed roads) during the period when telecoms works are being undertaken thereon, commencing at 0930hrs on Monday, 19 October 2026 and ending at 1530hrs on Friday, 23 October 2026 (works period) or at a time when the works have been completed whichever is the earlier. This is to ensure that the said works can be carried out safely. It is envisaged that the road will be closed between 0930hrs and 1530hrs each day of the works period. An alternative route for diverted vehicles will not be signed during the works period. Additionally, it is envisaged that access for resident and emergency will be maintained throughout the works period.
(10) HOWDEN LANE, NABURN
This Order will prohibit vehicles from proceeding and waiting in that length of road on Howden Lane, Naburn between its junction with Naburn Lane and a point 41 metres north-east of its junction with Track Moor Lane to Naburn Bridge (closed roads) during the period when vegetation works are being undertaken thereon, commencing at 0900hrs on Tuesday, 20 October 2026 and ending at 1500hrs on Tuesday, 20 October 2026 (works period) or at a time when the works have been completed whichever is the earlier. This is to ensure that the said works can be carried out safely. It is envisaged that access for resident and emergency vehicles will be maintained throughout the works period. An alternative route for diverted vehicles will be signed during the works period via York Road, Moor Lane, Naburn Lane, A19 Deighton to Crockey Hill.
(11) GIRVAN CLOSE & DEE CLOSE, WOODTHORPE
This Order will prohibit vehicles from proceeding and waiting in that length of road on Girvan Close and Dee Close, Woodthorpe (i) on Girvan Close between the projected western boundaries of property No’s 23 & 27 and (ii) on Dee Close between its junction with Girvan Close and the projected south-western boundary of property No 22 (closed roads) during the period when telecoms works are being undertaken thereon, commencing at 0930hrs on Wednesday, 21 October 2026 and ending at 1530hrs on Thursday, 22 October 2026 (works period) or at a time when the works have been completed whichever is the earlier. This is to ensure that the said works can be carried out safely. It is envisaged that the road will be closed between 0930hrs and 1530hrs each day of the works period. An alternative route for diverted vehicles will not be signed during the works period. Additionally, it is envisaged that access for resident and emergency vehicles will be maintained throughout the works period.
(12) PHILADELPHIA TERRACE, YORK
This Order will prohibit vehicles from proceeding and waiting in that length of road on Philadelphia Terrace, York between its junction with Albemarle Road and the projected south-eastern boundary of property No 1 (closed roads) during the period when highway maintenance works are being undertaken thereon, commencing at 0800hrs on Friday, 23 October 2026 and ending at 1700hrs on Friday, 30 October 2026 (works period) or at a time when the works have been completed whichever is the earlier. This is to ensure that the said works can be carried out safely. It is envisaged that the road will be closed between 0800hrs and 1700hrs each day of the works period. An alternative route for diverted vehicles will be signed during the works period via Albemarle Road, Brunswick Street, South Bank Avenue, Ovington Terrace. It is envisaged that access for resident and emergency vehicles will be maintained throughout the works period. Additionally, all ‘on-street’ parking places situated Ovington Terrace and South Bank Avenue, York (i) on both sides of Ovington Terrace between its junctions with Coggan Close and South Bank Avenue and (ii) on the northern side of South Bank Avenue between its junctions with Ovington Terrace and Bishopthorpe Road and (iii) on the south side of South Bank Avenue between its junction with Ovington Terrace and the projected eastern boundary of property No 112. The above temporary Orders will not prohibit works or emergency access nor will they prohibit access to premises provided that access is not prevented by on-going works or safety concerns. Traffic signs/barriers will indicate the extent of the prohibitions/restrictions.
