What is happening?

ORDER 2026
NOTICE IS HEREBY GIVEN that Lancashire County Council intend to make an Order under Section 14(1) (a) of the Road Traffic Regulation Act 1984, as amended, the effect of which will be to temporarily prohibit traffic on the roads set out in this notice.
1. No person shall cause any motor vehicle to proceed over that length of roads as follows: -
Lowergate – from its junction with Shawbridge Street to its junction with King Lane.
Shawbridge Street – travelling in a north westerly direction from its junction with Waterloo Road to its junction with Lowergate.
King Lane – from its junction with Lowergate to its junction with Castle Street.
2. Nothing in this order shall apply to persons engaged in the carrying out of the works.
3. The prohibition will be operative from 08:00 hours on 19th October 2026 until 17:30 hours on 22nd October 2026 or until completion of the works within this period.
4. Vehicular access for residents and emergency services will be maintained whenever and wherever possible. Pedestrian access to properties will always be maintained.
5. An alternative route for vehicular traffic affected by the closure is via a one way diversion: -
Waterloo Road – Well Terrace – Waddington Road – Railway View Rad – King Street – King Lane - Lowergate
AND FURTHER – The one way prohibition will be reversed on King Lane.
Traffic will be permitted to travel along King Lane from its junction with Castle Street in a south easterly direction to its junction with Lowergate to facilitate the flow of traffic.
The temporary prohibition is necessary to allow Cadent Gas to install a new gas service connection.
