What is happening?

THE CITY OF EDINBURGH COUNCIL

(BALGREEN ROAD AREA) (TEMPORARY ROAD RESTRICTION AND TRAFFIC REGULATION) ORDER 2026 – TEMP/26/148

The Council has made an Order under the Road Traffic Regulation Act 1984, as amended, the effect of which will be that for a temporary period, to facilitate carriageway resurfacing, junction improvement, footway and drainage works, no person shall:

(a) drive or cause or permit any vehicle to be driven on any part of:

(i) balgreen rd (1) from the extended south-east kerbline of Baird Dr, south-eastwards to the extended south kerbline of Whitson Rd; and (2) from the extended north-west kerbline of Gorgie Rd, northwards for 130m;

(ii) balgreen rd (access rd for nos. 154 to 170) in its entirety;

(iii) Whitson rd from the extended south-west kerbline of Balgreen Rd, south-westwards for 35m;

(iv) pansy Wk from the extended south-east kerbline of Balgreen Rd, north-eastwards for 15m; and

(v) stevenson Ter in its entirety;

and (b) except with the permission of a Parking Attendant, cause or permit any vehicle to wait or load onto or unload from any vehicle on any part of:

(i) balgreen rd from the extended south kerbline of Saughtonhall Dr, southeastwards to the extended north-west kerbline of Gorgie Rd;

(ii) balgreen rd (access rd for nos. 154 to 170) in its entirety;

(iii) Whitson rd from the extended south-west kerbline of Balgreen Rd, south-westwards for 35m;

(iv) pansy Wk from the extended south-east kerbline of Balgreen Rd, north-eastwards for 15m;

(v) stevenson dr from the extended south-west kerbline of Balgreen Rd, south-westwards for 50m;

(vi) stevenson rd from the extended north kerbline of Balgreen Rd, north-eastwards for 50m; and

(vii) stevenson Ter in its entirety. The south-eastbound bus lane on balgreen rd and the north-eastbound bus lane on stevenson rd shall be suspended for the duration of this Order to facilitate traffic management lane closures.

Existing parking restrictions and Greenways red line stopping/waiting restrictions, shall be suspended on the affected sections of roads described in (b). There are no alternative routes for through vehicular traffic in relation to the road closures of: (ii) balgreen rd (access rd for nos. 154 to 170); (iii) Whitson rd; (iv) pansy Wk; and (v) stevenson Ter. The alternative routes for through vehicular traffic in relation to the closures are (i) balgreen rd (1) – Balgreen Rd, Corstorphine Rd (Downie Ter), St. John’s Rd (Ormiston Ter), Meadow Pl Rd (B701), Broomhouse Rd (B701), Calder Rd (A71), Stenhouse Rd (A71), Gorgie Rd and Balgreen Rd; (2) – Gorgie Rd, Stenhouse Dr, Stevenson Dr and Balgreen Rd. The road closures for: balgreen rd (1) shall not be enacted at the same time as Balgreen Rd (2). The Order shall have effect from 05/10/26 to 26/03/27 except for (i) balgreen rd (2) and (v) stevenson Ter which shall have effect from 11/01/27 to 26/03/27 only.
