What is happening?

THE BOROUGH COUNCIL OF GATESHEAD

(CROSS LANE AND DUCK POND LANE DUNSTON - BRIDLEWAYS)
TEMPORARY TRAFFIC REGULATION ORDER 2026

Notice is hereby given that the Borough Council of Gateshead proposes to make an Order under section 14(1) of the Road Traffic Regulation Act 1984 the effect of which will be to temporarily prohibit pedestrians, cyclists and equestrians from proceeding along

a) Cross Lane Bridleway (WH/6/1 & WH/7/3) from its junction with Wellington Road to its junction with Market Lane,

b) Duck Pond Lane Bridleway (WH/10/1) for its entire length

The Order is required to facilitate works to install underground electric cabling. The Order will come into force on 19 October 2026. The maximum duration of the Order will be 6 months, however the works are expected to be completed by the 24 January 2027. 

All pedestrians (except operatives involved with the works and emergency services personnel on duty), cyclists and equestrians will be prohibited from proceeding along the bridleways described above until the works are competed or at such times and to such extent as may from time to time be indicated by the display of traffic signs. 

During the prohibition, there will be a signed diversion in place for pedestrians and cyclists only.
