What is happening?

THE BOROUGH COUNCIL OF GATESHEAD

(TYNE BRIDGE NORTHBOUND CLOSURE)
TEMPORARY TRAFFIC REGULATION ORDER 2026

Notice is hereby given that the Borough Council of Gateshead proposes to make an Order under section 14(1) of the Road Traffic Regulation Act 1984 the effect of which will be to temporarily prohibit vehicles from proceeding along a) Lambton Street - for its entire length, and b) High Street - from its junction with Lambton Street to its junction with Bottle Bank. 

There will also be a 4.95 metre height restriction on High Street - lanes 2 and 3 in a north bound direction from its junction with Askew Road. 

The Order is required to facilitate works to introduce a height restriction. The Order will come into force at 20:00 on 19 October 2026. 

The maximum duration of the Order will be 18 months; however, the prohibitions will only be in place between the hours of 20:00 and 06:00 when the works are operative. 

During the works all vehicles (except vehicles associated with the works and emergency service vehicles on duty) will be prohibited from proceeding along the above roads until the works are completed or at such times and to such extent as may from time to time be indicated by the display of traffic signs. During the works there will be a signed diversion in place.
