What is happening?
READING BOROUGH COUNCIL
(NORTHUMBERLAND AVENUE/CANTERBURY ROAD) (TEMPORARY ROAD RESTRICTIONS)
ORDER 2026
Reading Borough Council intend to make an Order in accordance with section 14(1)(a) of the Road Traffic Regulation Act 1984. The effect of which will be to temporarily:
• close Northumberland Avenue from the boundary between numbers 7-9 to the vehicle entrance of number 2a and introduce a no stopping, waiting or loading/unloading at any time restriction on both sides of that length of road.
• suspend the single and double yellow line restrictions where applicable on Canterbury Road from outside and opposite number 12 to the junction with Northumberland Avenue and introduce a no stopping, waiting or loading/unloading at any time restriction on both sides of that length of road.
If made, the Order will come into force from 19-30 October 2026. Should the works take longer than expected the restriction will remain in force for up to 18 months or until the completion of the works, whichever is earlier. The Order is necessary for new water connection works. A signed diversion route will be in place throughout.
(CIVIL ENFORCEMENT AREA) (WAITING/ONE WAY/CYCLE LANE RESTRICTIONS) (SIDMOUTH STREET) ORDER 2022 (AMENDMENT) ORDER 202*
Reading Borough Council pursuant to its powers under Sections 1(1), 2(1) to (3), 4(1) and Part IV of Schedule 9 to The Road Traffic Regulation Act 1984 and of all other enabling powers and after consultation with the Chief Officer of Police in accordance with Part III of Schedule 9 to the Act of 1984, proposes to make the above Order.
The general nature and effect of the Order will be to make some clerical amendments and to amend the existing cycle lane restriction on the east side of Sidmouth Street and replace it with a southbound only cycle lane extending from the junction of South Street to the junction of London Road.

(AMERSHAM ROAD ESTATE) (20 MILES PER HOUR SPEED LIMIT) ORDER 202*
The Reading Borough Council (hereinafter referred to as “The Council”) pursuant to its powers under Section 84 (1) and (2) of the Road Traffic Regulation Act 1984 (“the Act”), and of all other enabling powers and after consultation with the Chief Officer of Police in accordance with Part III of Schedule 9 to the Act, hereby makes the following Order
The general nature and effect of the Order will be to impose a 20 miles per hour restriction in the following lengths of road:
• Amersham Road, both directions. For its entire length
• Clonmel Close, both directions. For its entire length
• Charles Evans Way, both directions. For its entire length
• Ian Mikardo Way, both directions. For its entire length
• Rhine Close, both directions. For its entire length
• Nire Road, both directions. For its entire length
• Managua Close, both directions. For its entire length
• Honey Meadow Close, both directions. For its entire length

NOTICE OF PROPOSALS SECTION 90A
HIGHWAYS ACT 1980
Notice is hereby given that Reading Borough Council under Section 90A to the Highways Act 1980 intends to install traffic calming features to reduce the speed of traffic and improve road safety in the local area.

1 x speed hump:
10m north of its junc with Amersham Rd
90m north of its junc with Amersham Rd
163m north of its junc with Amersham Rd
Ian Mikardo Way
1 x speed hump:
12m north of its junc with Amersham Rd
125m north of its junc with Amersham Rd
All proposed traffic calming measures are of a nominal height of 75mm. All dimensions are approximate and measured to the centre of the speed humps. The traffic calming scheme is intended to reduce vehicle speed and improve road safety in the local area.

(LONDON STREET) (TEMPORARY ROAD RESTRICTIONS) ORDER 2026
Reading Borough Council has made an Order under section 14(1)(a) of the Road Traffic Regulation Act 1984. The effect of the Order will be to temporarily suspend the parking bay outside 73-77 London Street and introduce a no stopping, waiting or loading restriction within the suspended bays. The Order will take effect from 6-9 October 2026. The restrictions will only apply when indicated by on-site traffic signs. Should the works extend beyond the anticipated duration, the Order may remain in force for up to 18 months, or until the works are completed, whichever is sooner. The Order is necessary in the interests of public safety to facilitate the disconnection of the water supply.
