York - Multiple Temporary Road Closures and Traffic Restrictions due to Works

What is happening?

TEMPORARY TRAFFIC RESTRICTIONS

Notice is hereby given that City of York Council (the Council), in exercise of powers under Sections 14(1) & 15(8) of the Road Traffic Regulation Act 1984 (the Act), on Thursday, 01 October 2026 in respect of the locations numbered (1), (2), (3), (4) & (5). Furthermore, the Council, not less than 7 days from the publication of this Notice, intends to make an Order under Section 14(1) of the Act in respect of the locations numbered (6), (7), (8), (9), (10), (11), (12) & (13).

(1) COMMON ROAD LEVEL CROSSING, STRENSALL

This Order prohibits vehicles from proceeding through that length of road at Common Road Level Crossing, Strensall (closed road) during the period when railway maintenance works are being undertaken thereon, commencing at 2320hrs on Saturday, 03 October 2026 and ending at 0700hrs on Sunday, 04 October 2026 (works period) or at a time when the works have been completed whichever is the earlier. This is to ensure that the said works can be carried out safely. An alternative route for diverted vehicles will be signed during the works period via Lords Moor Lane to York Lane, York Lane, Rice Lane, Moor Lane, Gennell Lane, Smith's Lane, Common Road. Access for emergency vehicles will be maintained throughout the works period.

(2) FRONT STREET, ACOMB

This Order prohibits vehicles from proceeding and waiting in that length of westbound carriageway on Front Street, Acomb between its roundabout controlled junction with Link Road and the projected south-western boundary of property No.8 (closed roads) during the period when water mains works are being undertaken thereon, commencing at 0800hrs on Monday, 05 October 2026 and ending at 1700hrs on Friday, 09 October 2026 (works period) or at a time when the works have been completed whichever is the earlier. This is to ensure that the said works can be carried out safely. It is envisaged that access for resident and emergency vehicles will be maintained throughout the works period. An alternative route for diverted vehicles will be signed during the works period via Link Road, York Road, The Green, Wetherby Road, Ridgeway, Askham Lane.

(3) MILL LANE, HEWORTH

This Order prohibits vehicles from proceeding and waiting in that length of road on Mill Lane, Heworth between its junction with Heworth Green and the projected north-western boundary of property No 4 (closed roads) during the period when traffic signal renewal works are being undertaken thereon, commencing at 0800hrs on Monday, 05 October 2026 and ending at 1600hrs on Friday, 30 October 2026 (works period) or at a time when the works have been completed whichever is the earlier. This is to ensure that the said works can be carried out safely. Additionally, pedestrians will be prohibited from proceeding & waiting in that length of footpath on Heworth Green, Heworth on both sides between its junctions with Hyrst Grove and Dodsworth Avenue. It is envisaged that access for resident and emergency vehicles will be maintained throughout the works period. An alternative route for diverted vehicles will be signed during the works period via Heworth Green, Heworth Road, East Parade, Eboracum Way, Layerthorpe, Hawthorn Grove. Alternatives routes for both pedestrians and cyclists will also be signed during the works period.

(4) CHAPEL LANE, ASKHAM BRYAN

This Order prohibits vehicles from proceeding and waiting in that length of road on Chapel Lane, Askham Bryan between the junction with York Road and the junction with Main Street (closed road) during the period when telecoms works are being undertaken thereon, commencing at 0830hrs on Tuesday, 06 October 2026 and ending at 1630hrs on Wednesday, 07 October 2026 (works period) or at a time when the works have been completed whichever is the earlier. This is to ensure that the said works can be carried out safely. It is envisaged that the road will only be closed between 0830hrs and 1630hrs each day of the works period. An alternative route for diverted vehicles will be signed during the works period via York Road, Askham Field’s Lane, Main Street. Access for resident and emergency vehicles will be maintained throughout the works period.

(5) HAWTHORNE AVENUE, HAXBY

This Order prohibits vehicles from proceeding and waiting in that length of road on Hawthorne Avenue, Haxby between the projected eastern boundaries of property No's 36 and 54 (closed road) during the period when telecoms works are being undertaken thereon, commencing at 0930hrs on Wednesday, 07 October 2026 and ending at 1530hrs on Thursday, 08 October 2026 (works period) or at a time when the works have been completed whichever is the earlier. This is to ensure that the said works can be carried out safely. It is envisaged that the road will be closed between 0930hrs and 1530hrs each day of the works period. An alternative route for diverted vehicles will not be signed during the works period. It is envisaged that resident and emergency access will be maintained throughout the works period.

(6) HAXBY ROAD LEVEL CROSSING, HAXBY

This Order will prohibit vehicles from proceeding through that length of road at Haxby Road Level Crossing, Haxby (closed road) during the period when railway maintenance works are being undertaken thereon, commencing at 2320hrs on Saturday, 10 October 2026 and ending at 0555hrs on Monday, 12 October 2026 (works period) or at a time when the works have been completed whichever is the earlier. This is to ensure that the said works can be carried out safely. It is envisaged that the road will be closed between 2320hrs on Saturday, 10 October 2026 to 0825hrs on Sunday, 11 October 2026 and between 2320hrs on Sunday, 11 October 2026 to 0555hrs on Monday, 12 October 2026. An alternative route for diverted vehicles will be signed during the works period via York Road, The Village, Mill Lane, Wigginton Road, A1237.

(7) GLEBE AVENUE, ACOMB

This Order will prohibit vehicles from proceeding and waiting in that length of road on Glebe Avenue, Acomb between the projected north-western boundary of property No 8 to its junction with Malvern Avenue (closed roads) during the period when water mains works are being undertaken thereon, commencing at 0800hrs on Monday, 12 October 2026 and ending at 1800hrs on Wednesday, 14 October 2026 (works period) or at a time when the works have been completed whichever is the earlier. This is to ensure that the said works can be carried out safely. An alternative route for diverted vehicles will be signed during the works period via Carr Lane, Boroughbridge Road, Malvern Avenue. It is envisaged that access for resident and emergency vehicles will be maintained throughout the works period.

(8) GRANGE GARTH, FISHERGATE

This Order will prohibit vehicles from proceeding and waiting in that length of road on Grange Garth, Fishergate between the projected north-eastern boundary of property No. 6 and the projected western boundary of property No.8 (closed roads) during the period when telecoms works are being undertaken thereon, commencing at 0800hrs on Monday, 12 October 2026 and ending at 1800hrs on Friday, 16 October 2026 (works period) or at a time when the works have been completed whichever is the earlier. This is to ensure that the said works can be carried out safely. It is envisaged that access for resident and emergency vehicles will be maintained throughout the works period. An alternative route for diverted vehicles will be signed during the works period via Grange Street, Fulford Road.

(9) LINK AVENUE, CLIFTON

This Order will prohibit vehicles from proceeding and waiting in that length of road on Link Avenue, Clifton between its junctions with Burton Stone Lane and Lucas Avenue (closed roads) during the period when telecoms works are being undertaken thereon, commencing at 0800hrs on Monday, 12 October 2026 and ending at 1800hrs on Monday, 19 October 2026 (works period) or at a time when the works have been completed whichever is the earlier. This is to ensure that the said works can be carried out safely. It is envisaged that resident and emergency vehicle access will be maintained throughout the works period. An alternative route for diverted vehicles will be signed during the works period via Burton Stone Lane, Rowntree Avenue, Lucas Avenue.

(10) RIVERSIDE WALK, STRENSALL

This Order will prohibit vehicles from proceeding and waiting in that length of road on Riverside Walk, Strensall between the projected north-western boundaries of property No’s 12 & 26 (closed roads) during the period when telecoms works are being undertaken thereon, commencing at 0800hrs on Monday, 12 October 2026 and ending at 1800hrs on Wednesday, 21 October 2026 (works period) or at a time when the works have been completed whichever is the earlier. This is to ensure that the said works can be carried out safely. It is envisaged that access for resident and emergency vehicles will be maintained throughout the works period. An alternative route for diverted vehicles will not be signed during the works period.

(11) BALMORAL TERRACE, YORK

This Order will prohibit vehicles from proceeding and waiting in that length of road on Balmoral Terrace, York between its junctions with Montague Street and Bishopthorpe Road (closed roads) during the period when gas mains works are being undertaken thereon, commencing at 0800hrs on Monday, 12 October 2026 and ending at 1600hrs on Friday, 16 October 2026 (works period) or at a time when the works have been completed whichever is the earlier. This is to ensure that the said works can be carried out safely. It is envisaged that resident access will be maintained throughout the works period. An alternative route for diverted vehicles will be signed during the works period via Bishopthorpe Road, Campleshon Road, Knavesmire Road, Knavesmire Avenue, Knavesmire Crescent, Queen Victoria Street. Additionally, all ‘on-street’ parking places situated on both sides of Balmoral Terrace, York between its junctions with Montague Street and Bishopthorpe Road (suspension area) will be subject to suspension during the works period.

(12) LOW PETERGATE, YORK

This Order will prohibit vehicles from proceeding and waiting in that length of road on Low Petergate, York between its junctions with Duncombe Place and Church Street (closed roads) during the period when water mains works are being undertaken thereon, commencing at 1900hrs on Wednesday, 14 October 2026 and ending at 0600hrs on Thursday, 15 October 2026 (works period) or at a time when the works have been completed whichever is the earlier. This is to ensure that the said works can be carried out safely. An alternative route for diverted vehicles will be signed during the works period via Duncombe Place, Blake Street, Davygate, Church Street. Access for resident and emergency vehicles will be maintained throughout the works period.

(13) POTTERY LANE, STRENSALL

This Order will prohibit vehicles from proceeding and waiting in that length of road on Pottery Lane, Strensall between the projected eastern boundary of property known as Oakwood Farm and a point 330 metres east of said boundary (closed roads) during the period when telecoms works are being undertaken thereon, commencing at 1900hrs on Wednesday, 14 October 2026 and ending at 0600hrs on Friday, 16 October 2026 (works period) or at a time when the works have been completed whichever is the earlier. This is to ensure that the said works can be carried out safely. It is envisaged that the road will be closed between 1900hrs and 0600hrs each day of the works period. An alternative route for diverted vehicles will be signed during the works period via Carr Lane, Stillington Road, Moxby Lane, Sheriff Hutton Road. Access for resident and emergency vehicles will be maintained throughout the works period.

The above temporary Orders will not prohibit works or emergency access nor will they prohibit access to premises provided that access is not prevented by on-going works or safety concerns. Traffic signs/barriers will indicate the extent of the prohibitions/restrictions.
