THE COUNCIL OF THE BOROUGH OF MIDDLESBROUGH (MIDDLESBROUGH FOOTPATH NO.29) TEMPORARY PROHIBITION OF TRAFFIC ORDER 2025.
EXTENSION OF FOOTPATH CLOSURE
NOTICE is hereby given that the Council of the Borough of Middlesbrough ("the Council") under the provisions of Section 15 of the Road Traffic Regulation Act 1984 as amended by the Road Traffic (Temporary Restrictions) Act 1991 applied to the Secretary of State on 8th September 2026 for a further extension to the diversion of the footpath as referred to in the above named Order because works are continuing to be executed on or near the following length(s) of footpath. The Council received confirmation on 16th September 2026 from the Secretary of State that the further extension had been granted. The effect of this extension will continue the temporary diversion of Footpath No.29 as described in the Schedule to this Notice for a further period of six months ending on 27th April 2027 or until the works which are being carried out is completed whichever is the earlier. An alternative route will be available for use while the Order is in force which will be signed on site and run from Bonny Grove Way in a southerly direction following the fencing and then running between a fence and wooded area to a point behind No. 1 Comfrey Manor and then across the field running between two fences to a set of gates providing access across the constructed road and then follow the fence in a southwesterly direction until it meets the footpath. If the works are not completed within the period of extension the Order may be extended for a longer period with the approval of the Secretary of State.
The above Order was originally made on 21st October 2025 and provided for the diversion of the length of footpath specified in the Schedule hereto to be operative from 28th October 2025 for a period of six months or until the works to the length of footpath were completed whichever was the earlier. This was previously extended by approval of the Secretary of State until 28th October 2026. Dated 2nd October 2026. SCHEDULE: The public footpath commences at its junction with Middlesbrough No. 28.
The path proceeds in a generally southerly direction for approximately 335 metres along the boundary fence and hedge, past Comfrey Manor to a point near Rye Hill Way then in a generally southerly direction for approximately 168 metres across the field to a farm track to Newham Hall Farm.
