What is happening?

The County Council of Durham (Public Rights of Way Footpaths No’s 32 and 32a Shadforth Parish (Sherburn Beck No.2 Footbridge) Shadforth) (Temporary Footpath Closure and Revocation Order) Order 2026

The Council on 28/9/2026 made the above Order under Section 14(1) of the Road Traffic Regulation Act 1984 as amended, to prohibit all pedestrian traffic from proceeding on the following length of footpath. A 485-metre length of Footpaths 32 and 32a Shadforth Parish from the junction with Bridleway No.19 in an easterly direction across Shadforth Beck No. 2 Footbridge to Footpath No.3 to enable bridge repair works to be undertaken. Alternative routes for pedestrian traffic are available from the east side of the closure via Footpath No. 3 in a northerly or southerly direction, then westerly via Footpaths No.30 or 33, joining Bridleway No.29 to the west side of the closure, and vice versa. The maximum duration of the Order is 6 months. The works commenced under an emergency 21 Day notice which now require extending from 1/10/2026 and for the duration of the works anticipated to be 6 months. On occasions, alternative dates for the closure may be necessary and these will be signed on site accordingly. This order also revokes in its entirety The County Council of Durham (Sherburn Beck No.2 Footbridge, Shadforth) (Temporary Footbridge/Footpath Closure) Order 2019.
