What is happening?

Devon County Council (Various Roads) (20mph Limit & Zone) Order 

Devon County Council propose to make this under the Road Traffic Regulation Act 1984 to introduce 20mph Limit in Barnstaple on specified lengths of Albert Lane, Bedford Street, Bear Street, Belle Meadow Road, Boutport Street, Bull Court, Buller Road, Butchers Row, Highfield House Health Centre Car Park, Castle Street, Charles Street, Commercial Road, Coronation Street, Cross Street, Diamond Street, George Street, Hardaway Head, High Street, Higher Mauldin Street, Holland Street, Joy Street, King Edward Street, Lichdon Lane, Lichdon Street, Malletts Lane, New Buildings, New Road, North Walk, Paiges Lane, Queen Street, Seventh Street, Silver Street, Taw Vale, The Square, The Strand, Tuly Street, Vicarage Lawn, Vicarage Street & Wells Street. For ease of reference existing restrictions are in the draft order. The draft order, orders being revoked, plan & statement of reasons may be seen at devon.cc/20mph. Free bookable computer use is available during the opening hours of Devon Libraries. Documents are also available to view during normal office hours at the address below. 

Objections & other comments specifying the proposal & the grounds on which they are made must be in writing to the address below or via devon.cc/20mph to arrive by 22 October 2026. Receipt of submissions may not be acknowledged but those received will be considered. 

If you make a submission be aware that comments will be anonymised prior to being sent to Highways & Traffic Orders Committee (HATOC) members for consideration or being published on our website. Data may be shared within the Council & with our partner agencies.
