What is happening?

THE BOROUGH COUNCIL OF GATESHEAD
(HYDE PARK STREET, DUNSMUIR GROVE AND ARMSTRONG STREET, GATESHEAD) (WAITING RESTRICTIONS) (MAP BASED) TRAFFIC REGULATION ORDER 2026

Notice is hereby given that the Borough Council of Gateshead (“the Council”) proposes to make an Order in exercise of its powers under Sections 1(1), 2(1) to (3), 4(2), and Part IV of Schedule 9 to the Road Traffic Regulation Act 1984 (“the Act”), by virtue of the Traffic Management Act 2004 and all other enabling powers and after consultation with the Chief Officer of Northumbria Police in accordance with Part III of Schedule 9 to the Act. 

The proposed Order, if made, will introduce waiting restrictions at the various junctions of Dunsmuir Grove and Armstrong Street in the form of double yellow lines and traffic calming features in order to comply with the discharge of planning conditions for the redevelopment of the Hyde Park area in Saltwell. 

The proposals for the road humps and a copy of the draft Order, together with the maps that form part of the Schedule to the Order, a consultation Plan and a statement of the Council’s reasons for proposing to make the Order may be viewed at the information desk on the ground floor of Gateshead Council’s Civic Centre, Regent Street, Gateshead, NE8 1HH, Monday to Thursday between 8.45am and 5.00pm and Friday between 8.45am and 4.30pm or online at: www.gateshead.gov.uk/trafficschemes.  

If you wish to object to the proposals, you should send the grounds for your objection in writing to be received by the undersigned at the above address or by email to LegalTrafficOrders@gateshead.gov.uk on or before 23 October 2026.

THE BOROUGH COUNCIL OF GATESHEAD HIGHWAYS
ACT 1980 SECTION 90C
(HYDE PARK STREET, WESTMINSTER STREET, DUNSMUIR GROVE, FERN DENE ROAD, GATESHEAD) PROPOSED CONSTRUCTION OF ROAD HUMPS

Notice is hereby given that the Borough Council of Gateshead in exercise of its powers under Section 90A of the Highways Act 1980 and after consultation and in accordance with Section 90C of the Highways Act 1980 proposes to construct road humps complying with The Highways (Road Humps) Regulations 1999 as traffic calming measures in order to comply with the discharge of planning conditions. 

The proposal consists of introducing 3 raised tables with a height of 75mm, a full carriageway width and varying length at the locations specified in the Schedule below. 

The current speed limit on the lengths of road is 20mph. Road markings will be provided in accordance with the Traffic Signs Regulations and General Directions 2016 at all appropriate locations.
