York - Multiple Temporary Traffic Restrictions Due To Various Works

TEMPORARY TRAFFIC RESTRICTIONS

Notice is hereby given that City of York Council (the Council), in exercise of powers under Sections 14(1) & 15(8) of the Road Traffic Regulation Act 1984 (the Act), on Thursday, 24 September 2026 in respect of the locations numbered (1), (2), (3), (4), (5) & (6). Furthermore, the Council, not less than 7 days from the publication of this Notice, intends to make an Order under Section 14(1) of the Act in respect of the locations numbered (7), (8), (9), (10) & (11).

(1) KINGS SQUARE, YORK

This Order prohibits vehicles from proceeding and waiting in that length of road on Kings Square, York between its junction with Goodramgate and a location 15 metres south-east of said junction (closed road) during the period when sewer maintenance works are being undertaken thereon, commencing at 0800hrs on Monday, 28 September 2026 and ending at 1800hrs on Saturday, 03 October 2026 (works period) or at a time when the works have been completed whichever is the earlier. This is to ensure that the said works can be carried out safely. Additionally, the ‘ONE WAY’ direction of traffic flow in Colliergate and Kings Square are suspended during the period of physical closure to allow two-way traffic flow in the said roads. An alternative route for diverted vehicles will be signed during the works period via Church Street, Parliament Street, Pavement.

(2) WALMGATE, YORK

This Order prohibits vehicles from proceeding and waiting in that length of road on Walmgate, York between its junctions with Margaret Street and Hop Street (closed roads) during the period when water mains works are being undertaken thereon, commencing at 0400hrs on Tuesday, 29 September 2026 and ending at 0600hrs on Tuesday, 29 September 2026 (works period) or at a time when the works have been completed whichever is the earlier. This is to ensure that the said works can be carried out safely. It is envisaged that access for resident and emergency vehicles will be maintained throughout the works period. An alternative route for diverted vehicles will be signed during the works period via Foss Islands Road, Peasholme Green, The Stonebow, Pavement, Piccadilly, St Denys’ Road.

(3) FOOTPATH FROM WATER END TO GARNET STREET AND BISMARCK STREET, YORK

This Order prohibits pedestrians from proceeding and waiting in that length of footpath on Footpath from Water End to Garnet Street and Bismarck Street, York between its junction with Water End and a point 70 metres south of said junction (closed footpath) during the period when water mains works are being undertaken thereon, commencing at 0800hrs on Thursday, 01 October 2026 and ending at 1800hrs on Thursday, 22 October 2026 (works period) or at a time when the works have been completed whichever is the earlier. This is to ensure that the said works can be carried out safely. An alternative route for diverted pedestrians will be signed during the works period via Water End, Millennium Green. A diversion for cyclists will also be signed during the works period.

(4) LINCOLN STREET, YORK

This Order prohibits vehicles from proceeding and waiting in that length of road on Lincoln Street, York between its junction with Salisbury Road and a location 9 metres north-east of said junction (closed roads) during the period when water mains works are being undertaken thereon, commencing at 1900hrs on Tuesday, 29 September 2026 and ending at 0600hrs on Wednesday, 30 September 2026 (works period) or at a time when the works have been completed whichever is the earlier. This is to ensure that the said works can be carried out safely. It is envisaged that access will be maintained for resident and emergency vehicles. An alternative route for diverted vehicles will not be signed during the works period.

(5) HAXBY ROAD, YORK

This Order prohibits vehicles from proceeding and waiting in that length of road on Haxby Road, York between its roundabout controlled junction with Haley’s Terrace and the entrance to Nuffield Health York Hospital (closed roads) during the period when highway remedial works are being undertaken thereon, commencing at 2000hrs on Tuesday, 29 September 2026 and ending at 0600hrs on Thursday, 01 October 2026 (works period) or at a time when the works have been completed whichever is the earlier. This is to ensure that the said works can be carried out safely. It is envisaged that the road will be closed between 2000hrs and 0600hrs each day of the works period. Access will be maintained for resident and emergency vehicles. An alternative route for diverted vehicles will be signed during the works period via Haley’s Terrace, Huntington Road, Monkgate, Lord Mayors Walk, Clarence Street.

(6) YORK TRAIN STATION SOUTH TRAIN SHED ACCESS ROAD, YORK

This Order prohibits vehicles from performing a right hand turn from that length of road on York Train Station South Train Shed access road, York into Queen Street, York (restricted road) during the period when station gateway works are being undertaken thereon, commencing at 0001hrs on Saturday, 26 September 2026 and ending at 2359hrs on Sunday, 26 March 2028 (works period) or at a time when the works have been completed whichever is the earlier. This is to ensure that the said works can be carried out safely.

(7) COMMON ROAD LEVEL CROSSING, STRENSALL

This Order will prohibit vehicles from proceeding through that length of road at Common Road Level Crossing, Strensall (closed road) during the period when railway maintenance works are being undertaken thereon, commencing at 2320hrs on Saturday, 03 October 2026 and ending at 0700hrs on Sunday, 04 October 2026 (works period) or at a time when the works have been completed whichever is the earlier. This is to ensure that the said works can be carried out safely. An alternative route for diverted vehicles will be signed during the works period via Lords Moor Lane to York Lane, York Lane, Rice Lane, Moor Lane, Gennell Lane, Smith’s Lane, Common Road. Access for emergency vehicles will be maintained throughout the works period.

(8) FRONT STREET, ACOMB

This Order will prohibit vehicles from proceeding and waiting in that length of westbound carriageway on Front Street, Acomb between its roundabout controlled junction with Link Road and the projected south-western boundary of property No.8 (closed roads) during the period when water mains works are being undertaken thereon, commencing at 0800hrs on Monday, 05 October 2026 and ending at 1700hrs on Friday, 09 October 2026 (works period) or at a time when the works have been completed whichever is the earlier. This is to ensure that the said works can be carried out safely. It is envisaged that access for resident and emergency vehicles will be maintained throughout the works period. An alternative route for diverted vehicles will be signed during the works period via Link Road, York Road, The Green, Wetherby Road, Ridgeway, Askham Lane.

(9) MILL LANE, HEWORTH

This Order will prohibit vehicles from proceeding and waiting in that length of road on Mill Lane, Heworth between its junction with Heworth Green and the projected north-western boundary of property No 4 (closed roads) during the period when traffic signal renewal works are being undertaken thereon, commencing at 0800hrs on Monday, 05 October 2026 and ending at 1600hrs on Friday, 30 October 2026 (works period) or at a time when the works have been completed whichever is the earlier. This is to ensure that the said works can be carried out safely. Additionally, pedestrians will be prohibited from proceeding & waiting in that length of footpath on Heworth Green, Heworth on both sides between its junctions with Hyrst Grove and Dodsworth Avenue. It is envisaged that access for resident and emergency vehicles will be maintained throughout the works period. An alternative route for diverted vehicles will be signed during the works period via Heworth Green, Heworth Road, East Parade, Eboracum Way, Layerthorpe, Hawthorn Grove. Alternatives routes for both pedestrians and cyclists will also be signed during the works period.

(10) CHAPEL LANE, ASKHAM BRYAN

This Order will prohibit vehicles from proceeding and waiting in that length of road on Chapel Lane, Askham Bryan between the junction with York Road and the junction with Main Street (closed road) during the period when telecoms works are being undertaken thereon, commencing at 0830hrs on Tuesday, 06 October 2026 and ending at 1630hrs on Wednesday, 07 October 2026 (works period) or at a time when the works have been completed whichever is the earlier. This is to ensure that the said works can be carried out safely. It is envisaged that the road will be closed between 0830hrs and 1630hrs each day of the works period. An alternative route for diverted vehicles will be signed during the works period via York Road, Askham Field’s Lane, Main Street. Access for resident and emergency vehicles will be maintained throughout the works period.

(11) HAWTHORNE AVENUE, HAXBY

This Order will prohibit vehicles from proceeding and waiting in that length of road on Hawthorne Avenue, Haxby between the projected eastern boundaries of property No’s 36 and 54 (closed roads) during the period when telecoms works are being undertaken thereon, commencing at 0930hrs on Wednesday, 07 October 2026 and ending at 1530hrs on Thursday, 08 October 2026 (works period) or at a time when the works have been completed whichever is the earlier. This is to ensure that the said works can be carried out safely. It is envisaged that the road will be closed between 0930hrs and 1530hrs each day of the works period. An alternative route for diverted vehicles will not be signed during the works period. It is envisaged that resident and emergency access will be maintained throughout the works period.

The above temporary Orders will not prohibit works or emergency access nor will they prohibit access to premises provided that access is not prevented by on-going works or safety concerns. Traffic signs/barriers will indicate the extent of the prohibitions/restrictions.
