(C87 WHITRIG, BEMERSYDE)

(TEMPORARY CLOSING) ORDER  2026

The Scottish Borders Council (C87 Whitrig, Bemersyde) (Temporary Closing) Order 2026 has been made under Section 14(1) of the Road Traffic Regulation Act 1984 as amended. The Order, which has a maximum duration of  18 months, will come into force on 30 September 2026 and is expected to remain in effect for a period of one day between the hours of 08:00 and 17:00. The Order is required for BT works.

When the Order comes into effect no person shall drive or cause or permit to be driven any vehicle along the C87 at Whitrig, Bemersyde.

The alternative route for southbound traffic is via the C78, B6356 and C87 to the point of closure, for northbound traffic the reverse of the foregoing.

(OFF-STREET PARKING PLACES) (MELROSE) ORDER 2000 (AMENDMENT NO. 4) ORDER  2026

The Scottish Borders Council, on 21 September 2026, in exercise of the powers conferred on them by Sections 32 and 35 and Part IV of Schedule 9 of the Road Traffic Regulation Act 1984 and of all other enabling powers and after consultation with the Chief Officer of Police in accordance with Part III of Schedule 9 to said Act and having complied with The Local Authorities’ Traffic Orders (Procedure) (Scotland) Regulations 1999, as amended made the above Order. The Order will come into operation on 1 October 2026.

The effect of the Order will be to standardise the daily operational period across Pay and Display car parks to between 08:30 and 17.00, to standardise (i) tariff bands across Pay and Display car parks, (ii) costs for tariff bands, and (iii) surcharges, excess charges and irregular parking charges. In particular, this Order relates to Abbey Car Park (Monday to Sunday), Melrose.

A copy of the Order as made may be examined at Traffic and Road Safety, Network, Environment and Infrastructure, The Scottish Borders Council, Newtown St Boswells, Melrose, from Mondays to Thursdays between 9:00 am and 5:00 pm and also at Melrose Library, 18 Market Square TD6 9PN during normal working hours.

Any person wishing to question the validity of the Order or of any of its provisions on the grounds that it is not within the powers of the relevant enabling Act or that a requirement of any such enabling Act or of any relevant regulations made thereunder has not been complied with may, within 6 weeks from 24 September 2026 make application for the purpose to the Court of Session.

The Order will come into operation on 1 October 2026.

The Scottish Borders Council has made the above Order in exercise of the powers conferred on them by Sections 32 and 35 of the Road Traffic Regulation Act 1984 and of all other enabling powers and after consultation with the Chief Officer of Police in accordance with Part III of Schedule 9 to the said Act. The Order will come into operation on 1 October 2026.

A copy of the Order as made, may be inspected at Road Safety and Traffic Management, Assets and Infrastructure, Council HQ, Newtown St Boswells during normal opening hours.

Any person wishing to object to the validity of the Order or any of its provisions on the grounds that it is not within the powers of the relevant enabling Act or that a requirement of any such enabling Act or of any relevant regulations made thereunder has not been complied with may, within 6 weeks from 24 September 2026,  make an application for that purpose to the Court of Session.
