What is happening?
THE BOROUGH COUNCIL OF GATESHEAD (HARTSIDE BIRTLEY - FOOTPATH CLOSURE) TEMPORARY TRAFFIC REGULATION ORDER 2026
Notice is hereby given that the Borough Council of Gateshead proposes to make an Order under section 14(1) of the Road Traffic Regulation Act 1984 the effect of which will be to temporarily prohibit pedestrians from proceeding along the footpath from a point 4 metres south of No 24 Hartside in a northerly direction for a distance of 45 metres.
The Order is required to facilitate works to an underground BT structure. The Order will come into force at 09:30 on 12 October 2026. The maximum duration of the Order will be 6 months; however the works are expected to be completed by 15:30 on the 12 October 2026. During the works all pedestrians (except operatives associated with the works and emergency service operatives on duty) will be prohibited from proceeding along the above footpath until the works are completed or at such times and to such extent as may from time to time be indicated by the display of traffic signs. During the works there will be a signed diversion in place.
