What is happening?
CITY OF BRISTOL
(CENTRAL ZONE, ASHLEY, CENTRAL AND LAWRENCE HILL WARDS, CITY OF BRISTOL) (CONTROLLED PARKING) ORDER NO.2 2026
The City Council of Bristol hereby gives NOTICE that on 24th September 2026 it made a traffic order, the effect of which is:-
1. to remove the 8am to 10pm pay and display parking places in Fairfax Street, south west side;
2. to introduce a prohibition of loading/unloading in Fairfax Street, both sides; and
3. to revoke the City Council of Bristol (Central Zone, Ashley, Central and Lawrence Hill Wards, City of Bristol) (Controlled Parking) Order 2026 and bring forward all provisions unamended into the new order.
This order is made by virtue of Regulation 19 of the Local Authorities’ Traffic Orders (Procedure) (England and Wales) Regulations 1996.
It is the second order to be made in respect of the original proposed order, the Notice of Intent for which was advertised on 27th November 2025.
The first order was entitled City Council of Bristol (Central Zone, Ashley, Central and Lawrence Hill Wards, City of Bristol) (Controlled Parking) (Part I) Order 2026 and was made on 9th July 2026.
The order will come into operation on 28th September 2026 and a copy thereof, together with plans, a copy of the order being revoked, and a Statement of the Council’s Reasons for making the order may be inspected at the Citizen Service Point at 100 Temple Street, Bristol, BS1 6AG, between 10.00 a.m. and 4.00 p.m. on Monday to Friday.
Any person who desires to question the validity of, or of any provision contained in the order on the grounds that it is not within the relevant powers of the Road Traffic Regulation Act 1984 as amended, or on the grounds that any of the relevant requirements of that Act has not been complied with in relation to the order, may within six weeks after the date on which the order was made, apply to the High Court for this purpose.
