COMPULSORY PURCHASE OF LAND AND NEW RIGHTS IN LAND AT
STAIRFOOT ROUNDABOUT, STAIRFOOT, BARNSLEY
NOTICE IS HEREBY GIVEN that the Barnsley Metropolitan Borough Council has made the Metropolitan Borough of Barnsley (A633/A635 Stairfoot Roundabout Improvement) Compulsory Purchase Order 2026 under Sections 239, 240, 250 and 260 of the Highways Act 1980 and the Acquisition of Land Act 1981.
It is about to submit this Order to the Secretary of State for Transport for confirmation, and if confirmed, the Order will authorise the Barnsley Metropolitan Borough Council to purchase compulsorily the land and the new rights described below for the purpose of:
(1) the improvement of highways known as A633 Grange Lane, A635 Doncaster Road, Old Doncaster Road, A633 Wombwell Lane, Bleachcroft Way and B6100 Hunningley Lane at their approaches to/from and adjoining the roundabout at Stairfoot all in the Metropolitan Borough of Barnsley in the County of South Yorkshire; and
(2) use by the acquiring authority in connection with the improvement of highways aforesaid.

Any objection to the Order must be made in writing to the Secretary of State for Transport at c/o Transport Infrastructure Planning Casework Unit, PO Box 1393, Newcastle Upon Tyne NE99 5FQ, or to nation casework@dft.gov.uk not later than 16 October 2026 and should state the title of the order, the grounds of objection and the objector’s address and interests in the land.
In submitting an objection, it should be noted that your personal data and correspondence will be passed to the Council to enable your objection to be considered. If you do not wish your personal data to be forwarded, please state your reasons when submitting your objection and the Secretary of State will copy your representations, with yourname and address removed to the Council, and if there is to be a Public Local Inquiry they will be seen by the Inspector who may give them less weight as a result.

51.19 square metres comprising of grass land situate and having frontage on the western side of Grange Lane (A633) at the junction with Doncaster Road (old road) (A635) situate to the north. Split up
4.78 square metres comprising of grass verge and tarmacadam surface situate and having frontage on the western side of Grange Lane (A633).
5.02 square metres comprising of shrubbery land situate to the southeastern comer of a commercial drive-through, north of Doncaster Road (A635) off the southbound approach to Stairfoot roundabout.
19. 72 square metres comprising of shrubbery land situate to the southwestern comer of a commercial drive-through and having frontage to the northeastern side of Doncaster Road (A635) on the southbound approach to Stairfoot roundabout.
293.86 square metres comprising of steep shrub planted embankment situate to the southwest of the Stairfoot roundabout circulatory between Hunningley Lane (86100) and Wombwell Lane (A633) link approach/exit arms.
