Bowburn - Temporary Road Closures due to Carriageway Resurfacing Works

The County Council of Durham (A177, Bowburn North Industrial Estate and Prince Charles Avenue, Bowburn) (Temporary Road Closure) Order 2026

The Council proposes to make an Order under Section 14(1) of the Road Traffic Regulation Act 1984 as amended, to prohibit all vehicular traffic from proceeding on the following lengths of road. A 335 metre length of Bowburn North Industrial Estate Road that extends west, south-westerly from A177. A 700 metre length of A177, extending south from its junction with Bell Avenue to its junction with Bede Terrace, including a 60 metre length of Bowburn North Industrial Estate Road, extending west from A177 and a 55 metre length of Prince Charles Avenue extending east from A177 to enable carriageway resurfacing works to be undertaken. An alternative route will be available to vehicular traffic from the southern side of the closure, from A177 south easterly to Junction 61 Interchange, continuing south easterly on A688, then continuing north easterly on A688 to A181 Byers Garth Roundabout, then north westerly on A181 and westerly on B1198 to Shincliffe, then south easterly on A177 to the northern side of the closure and vice versa.

The maximum duration of the Order is 18 months. The proposed works are required between 8pm–6am from Monday 12/10/2026 and for the duration of the works, anticipated to be 8 nights. On occasions, alternative dates for the closure may be necessary and these will be signed on site accordingly.
