Chopwell Road - Temporary Road Closure due to Carriageway Resurfacing Works
What is happening?
The County Council of Durham (C120 Chopwell Road, Hamsterley Colliery) (Temporary Road Closure) Order 2026
The Council proposes to make an Order under Section 14(1) of the Road Traffic Regulation Act 1984 as amended, to prohibit all vehicular traffic from proceeding on the following length of road. A 340 metre length of C120 Chopwell Road between its junctions with A694 Hamsterley Colliery and Armondside Road, Blackhall Mill to enable carriageway resurfacing works to be undertaken.
An alternative route will be available to vehicular traffic from the southern side of the closure, from A694 easterly to Rowlands Gill, turning westerly and north westerly on B6315, north westerly and westerly through High Spen and south on Clayton Terrace Road, through Chopwell to Blackhall Mill to the northern side of the closure and vice versa.
The maximum duration of the Order is 18 months. The proposed works are required from Monday 12/10/2026 and for the duration of the works anticipated to be 5 days, between 9am-3pm per day. On occasions, alternative dates for the closure may be necessary and these will be signed on site accordingly.
