Queen Street - Temporary 10 MPH Speed Restriction for Zebra Crossing & Footway Works

CUMBERLAND COUNCIL (A596 QUEEN STREET, ASPATRIA) (TEMPORARY 10 MPH SPEED RESTRICTION) ORDER 2026

NOTICE IS HEREBY GIVEN that to enable works to be carried out for the installation of a new zebra crossing and footway widening (“the Works”), Cumberland Council intends to make an Order the effect of which is to prohibit any vehicle from proceeding at speeds in excess of 10 miles per hour along that section of the A596 Queen Street, Aspatria, from its junction with Harriston Road, extending in a south westerly direction for approx. 40m.

N.B. The 10 miles per hour speed restriction will operate where contractor’s operatives and plant are working on site. It will be operated on a convoy system with a lead vehicle controlling traffic speed to protect the workforce.

No speed limit imposed by this Order will apply to vehicles falling within regulation 3(4) of the Road Traffic Exemptions (Special Forces) (Variation and Amendment) Regulations 2011 when used in accordance with regulation 3(5) of those Regulations.

The Order will come into operation on 12 October 2026 and may continue in force for a maximum duration of eighteen months. However, please note that it is anticipated that the restriction will only be required for 19 days between 0800 and 1600 hours each day and only as and when the relevant traffic signs are displayed.
