What is happening?
Notice is hereby given that Manchester City Council has made the CITY OF MANCHESTER (MANCUNIAN WAY, ARDWICK, DEANSGATE, HULME AND PICCADILLY) (REVOCATION OF 40MPH SPEED LIMIT) ORDER 2026 under the Road Traffic Regulation Act 1984. The effect of the Order is to:
Revoke the 40MPH Speed Limit on the following length of road, thereby making it subject to the national Restricted Road Speed Limit of 30MPH:
A635 Mancunian Way, from A57(M) Mancunian Way to its junction with Fairfield Street and the road connecting the A635 Mancunian Way to the southbound carriageway of London Road and Downing Street
The Order was made on 17 September 2026 and will come into operation on 5 October 2026. (The above provision was previously promoted as part of the City of Manchester (Speed Limits) (Various Roads Order 2017) (Amendment No.3) Order 2024).
An Order has been amended to provide for the above.
A copy of the made Order, the plan and a copy of the Order that has been amended may be inspected at Customer Service Centre, Ground Floor, Town Hall Extension M60 2LA (for Sat. Nav. use M2 5DB) between the hours of 9am and 4.30pm on Monday to Friday inclusive.
Anyone wishing to question the validity of the Order or any provision contained in it on the grounds that it is not within the powers conferred by the Road Traffic Regulation Act 1984 or that any requirement of that Act or of any instrument made under it has not been complied with in relation to the Order may within 6 weeks from 17 September 2026 apply to the High Court for such purpose.
