Swanley - Temporary 40mph Speed Restrictions Due To Signalling & Associated Works
What is happening?

M20 And M25 Motorways, A20 Trunk Road – Swanley Interchange Temporary Traffic Restrictions
Notice is hereby given that National Highways Limited intends to make an Order on the M20 and M25 Motorways, and the A20 Trunk Road in the County of Kent, under Section 14(1)(a) of the Road Traffic Regulation Act 1984, owing to the likelihood of danger to the public.
The Effect Of The Order Would Be To Impose A 24-Hour 40 Mph Speed Restriction On:–
a) all of the roads approaching the Swanley Interchange roundabout (M20 Junction 1, M25 Junction 3, A20) from the M25, M20, and A20;
b) all of the roads leading to the motorways described in a) above;
c) the eastbound carriageway of the A20 local road from its divergence from the roundabout to a point approximately 85 metres east;
d) the westbound carriageway of the A20 local road from a point approximately 455 metres east of the stop line to its merge with the roundabout;
e) both carriageways of the B2173 from/to the existing 30mph/National Speed Limit transition to/from the roundabout;
f) all link roads connecting any of the above; and
g) the entire circulatory carriageway of Swanley Interchange roundabout.
Start/stop limits on a) and b) above will be determined by signage. Details if required available on demand.
These measures would be in the interests of road safety during the conduct of signalling and all associated works and would commence 00:01 hours at the earliest on 19th October 2026.
The Order would come into force on 17th October 2026 and have a maximum duration of eighteen months, expiring when the works are complete.
The temporary speed restrictions would be clearly indicated by traffic signs while they are in operation during the works period.
