Gloucestershire - Multiple Temporary Closures Due To Various Works

GLOUCESTERSHIRE COUNTY COUNCIL

(30, 40 & 50 MPH SPEED LIMITS) (A419) (VARIOUS PARISHES) (STROUD DISTRICT & COTSWOLD DISTRICT) ORDER 2026

Notice is hereby given that Gloucestershire County Council in exercise of its enabling powers under Sections 82 & 84 and Part IV of Schedule 9 of the Road Traffic Regulation Act 1984 has made the above-named order the effect of which will be:

1. To introduce the speed limits detailed in the schedules below; and

2. To rectify anomalies between the existing 30mph speed limit Traffic Order and the on-site situation on Stroud Road in Cirencester, by revoking the existing Traffic Order and introducing a 30mph speed limit by virtue of street lighting (where there is street lighting) and by Traffic Order as detailed in Schedule 1 below (where there is no streetlighting) along Stroud Road, Cirencester.

3. To re-introduce the existing 40mph speed limit on London Road from Stroud to Chalford to consolidate the speed limits on the A419 into one Traffic Order and to rectify anomalies between what is signed on-street and the Traffic Order. There will be no changes to the existing signed 40mph speed limit on-street on London Road between Stroud & Chalford.

The lengths of roads fall within the parishes of Brimscombe & Thrupp, Chalford and Minchinhampton in the Stroud District and the parishes of Sapperton, Coates & the Town of Cirencester within the Cotswold District in the County of Gloucestershire.

The Order shall come into effect on 30th September 2026.

TEMPORARY CLOSURE AND RESTRICTION OF VARIOUS ROADS (EASTINGTON PARISH) STROUD DISTRICT

Gloucestershire County Council, as traffic authority, has made an Order under the Road Traffic Regulation Act 1984 (as amended) to temporarily close and restrict part of the lengths of roads as detailed in the Schedule below.

SCHEDULE

The reason for the said closures and restrictions is for carriageway resurfacing works. There will be no stopping or waiting and no loading permitted throughout the duration of the said works.

The said roads are expected to be closed and restricted each night between the hours of 20:00 until 07:00, on a rolling programme commencing 21st September 2026 where the presence of approved signage will indicate whether the said closures and restrictions are in force. Further advance warnings of dates/times will be displayed on site prior to the said closures and restrictions taking effect. This Order may permit the said closures and restrictions in any order, or simultaneously as required. It is anticipated all works will be completed by 23rd September 2026. However, if the works are not completed by this date, the Order can remain in force for up to 18 months.

TEMPORARY CLOSURE 401257 MIDDLE ROAD (BRIMSCOMBE & THRUPP PARISH) STROUD DISTRICT

Gloucestershire County Council, as traffic authority has made an Order under the Road Traffic Regulation Act 1984 (as amended) to temporarily close part of the 401257 Middle Road from its junction with London Road to its junction with Hope Walk for a distance of approximately 35 metres.

The reason for the closure is for cable installation works.

The road is expected to be closed from 09:30hrs on 28th September 2026 to 15:30hrs on 30th September 2026. However, if the said works are not completed by this date the Order may remain in force for up to eighteen months or until the said works have been completed, whichever is sooner.

Gloucestershire County Council, as traffic authority has made an Order under the Road Traffic Regulation Act 1984 (as amended) to temporarily close part of the C262 Bath Road from outside of the property known as ‘The Hawthorns’ to outside of the property known as ‘Bath Road Farm’ for a distance of approximately 30 metres.

The reason for the closure is for works on behalf of BT Openreach.

The road is expected to be closed on 28th September 2026 only. However, if the said works are not completed by this date the Order may remain in force for up to eighteen months or until the said works have been completed, whichever is sooner.

The reason for the closure is for pole replacement works.

The said road is expected to be closed on 25th September 2026 only. However, if the said works are not completed by this date the Order may remain in force for up to eighteen months or until the said works have been completed, whichever is sooner.

Gloucestershire County Council, as traffic authority, has made an Order under the Road Traffic Regulation Act 1984 (as amended) to temporarily close part of the 401271 Bussage Hill, from outside the property known as ‘Lynchgate’ for a distance of approximately 30 metres in a northwardly direction. The reason for the closure is for works to repair a retaining wall.

The said road is expected to be closed from 24th September 2026 until 20th November 2026 only. However, if the said works are not completed by this date the Order may remain in force for up to eighteen months or until the said works have been completed, whichever is sooner.

TEMPORARY CLOSURE OF A419 COWCOMBE HILL (CHALFORD PARISH) STROUD DISTRICT

Gloucestershire County Council, as traffic authority, has made an Order under the relevant provisions of the Road Traffic Regulation Act 1984 (as amended) to temporarily close part of the A419 Cowcombe Hill Road from outside of the property known as ‘Lavender Bakehouse’ to a point 500 metres Southeast for a total distance of approximately 500 metres.

The reason for the said closure is for geotechnical works.

The said road is expected to be closed from 29th September 2026 until 9th October 2026. However, if the said works are not completed by this date the Order may remain in force for up to eighteen months or until the said works have been completed, whichever is sooner.

Gloucestershire County Council, as traffic authority, intends to make an Order under the Road Traffic Regulation Act 1984 (as amended) to temporarily close part of the C208 Queens Road, from outside the property known as ‘Number 21’ to outside the property known as ‘Royan’ for a distance of approximately 30 metres. The reason for the closure is for Network Rail retaining wall inspection works.

The said road is expected to be closed from 21:00hrs on 11th October 2026 until 05:00hrs on 12th October 2026 only. However, if the said works are not completed by this date the Order may remain in force for up to eighteen months or until the said works have been completed, whichever is sooner.

The reason for the closure is for works on behalf of the National Grid.

The road is expected to be closed from 14th October 2026 until 16th October 2026 only. However, if the said works are not completed by this date the Order may remain in force for up to eighteen months or until the said works have been completed, whichever is sooner.
