PUBLIC RIGHTS OF WAY AFFECTED BY WEST COAST PYLON RE-CABLING

TEMPORARY PROHIBITION OF TRAFFIC ORDER 2026

NOTICE IS GIVEN that under Section 14(1) of the Road Traffic Regulation Act 1984, the Secretary of State has extended the Order made by the Lake District National Park Authority dated 2 April 2026. The effect of the order is to prohibit all public traffic for all purposes from proceeding over various footpaths and bridleways in the parishes of Bootle, Drigg and Carleton, Muncaster, Waberthwaite and Whicham Parish, to enable works to install new power lines.

The notice and plans showing the route concerned may be inspected during normal office or opening hours at the National Park Authority, Wayfaring House, Murley Moss, Oxenholme Road, Kendal, LA9 7RL; at Cumberland Council Customer Services, Market Hall, Whitehaven, CA28 7JG; and at Bootle Post Office, 4 Main Street, Bootle, LA19 5TF; and online at www.lakedistrict.gov.uk/rowclosures.

This extension took effect on 15 September 2026 and will continue in force until 14 April 2027, or until the works are complete, whichever is the earlier. The works are being completed in sections, and the order is only in operation over those paths affected by the works at any given time. Signage will be erected indicating when closures are in effect on individual paths. At all other times the paths will be accessible as normal. There are no suitable alternative routes when closures are in effect. If the works have not been completed during this period the order may be extended for a further period with the approval of the Secretary of State.
