ROAD TRAFFIC REGULATION ACT 1984 – SECTION 14(1)

TEMPORARY ROAD CLOSURES FOR HIGHWAYS MAINTENANCE – VARIOUS ROADS

1. NOTICE IS HEREBY GIVEN that the Council of the Royal Borough of Greenwich intends to make an Order to facilitate highway maintenance improvements and repairs works under Section 14(1) of the Road Traffic Regulation Act 1984.

2. The effect of the Order would be to:

(a) temporarily prohibit vehicles from entering, exiting, proceeding or waiting (including waiting for the purposes of loading or unloading) in the roads specified in the Schedule to this Notice for their entire length.

(b) Revoke the existing One-Way prohibitions at the following locations:

(i) Admaston Road between its junction with Palmerston Crescent and Plumstead Common Road in a northerly direction.

(ii) Bloomfield Road between its junction with Crescent Road and Plumstead Common Road in a southerly direction.

(iii) Calderwood Street between its junction with Market Street and John Wilson Street in a south-westerly direction.

(iv) Castile Road between its junction with John Wilson Street and Monk Street in a north-easterly direction.

(v) College Approach between its junction with Greenwich Church Street and King William Walk in a north-easterly direction.

(vi) Edge Hill between its northern junction with Herbert Road and its southern junction with Herbert Road in a westerly, south-easterly and easterly direction.

(vii) King William Walk between its junction with Nevada Street and Nelson Road in a north-westerly direction.

(viii) Orchard Road between its junction with Plumstead High Street and Griffin Road in a south-westerly direction.

(ix) Pettman Crescent between its junction with Plumstead Road and Plumstead High Street for its full length in a clockwise direction.

(x) Sandy Hill Road between its junction with Plumstead Common Road and Bignell Road in a north-westerly direction.

(xi) Sibthorpe Road between its north-western junction with Alnwick Road and its south-eastern junction with Alnwick Road in a clockwise direction.

(xii) Tunnel Avenue between its junction with Denham Street and Woolwich Road in  south-easterly direction.

(xiii) Woolwich New Road between its junction with Claydown Mews and Grand Depot Road in a south-westerly direction.

3. Nothing in this Notice will apply to anything done with the permission or at the direction of a police constable in uniform or traffic warden, to emergency service vehicles, or to persons in connection with the works.

4. The above prohibitions will only apply to such times and such extent as shall be indicated by the appropriate traffic signs and traffic  management measures.

5. Whilst the closures are in operation, vehicular access to properties affected by these works would be maintained wherever possible subject to the extent and operations of the works. Alternative routes for diverted vehicles would be available via local roads and would be indicated via local signage.

6. The Order would come into force on Thursday 8th October 2026 and would continue in force for up to 18 months, or until the works have been completed, whichever is the sooner and may be re-introduced should further works be required.
