Warrington - Multiple Temporary Road Closures and Traffic Restrictions
What is happening?
WARRINGTON BOROUGH COUNCIL
Road Traffic Regulation Act 1984
Notice is hereby given that, in not less than 7 days from the date of this Notice, the Council intends to make Orders under Section 14 of the Road Traffic Regulation Act 1984.
Cantilever Bridge, Chester Rd Swing Bridge, Northwich Rd Swing Bridge & Knutsford Rd Swing Bridge (Prohibition of Driving & Footway Closure) Temporary Order 2026
The effect of which will be to introduce a prohibition of driving & footway closure as follows: Cantilever Bridge; Cantilever South West Approach; Cantilever South East Approach; Chester Rd Swing Bridge; Northwich Rd Swing Bridge; Knutsford Rd Swing Bridge.
The Order will be effective from 5th October 2026 for 4 weeks & will be carried out in phases as follows: Phase 1: Cantilever Bridge – Between 7pm on 5th October 26 to 6am on 6th October 26; Phase 2: Chester Rd Swing Bridge – Between 12am & 5.30am on 13th October 26 to 15th October 26; Phase 3: Northwich Rd Swing Bridge – Between 12am & 5.30am on 20th October 26 to 22nd October 26; Phase 4: Knutsford Rd Swing Bridge – Between 12am & 5.30am on 27th October 26 to 29th October 26.
The alternative routes will be as follows: Cantilever Bridge via Knutsford Rd, Wilderspool Cway, London Rd, Grappenhall Rd & vice versa; Chester Rd Swing Bridge via Chester Rd, Wilderspool Cswy, Walton Rd, Walton New Rd & vice versa; Northwich Rd Swing Bridge via Wilderspool Cswy, Chester Rd, Walton New Rd, Walton Rd, London Rd & vice versa; Knutsford Rd Swing Bridge via Knutsford Rd, Wilderspool Cswy, London Rd, Grappenhall Rd, Chester Rd & vice versa.
The restrictions are required to allow for bridge inspections to be carried out.

Clay Ln, Burtonwood (Prohibition of Driving & Clearway) Temporary Order 2026
The effect of which will be to introduce a prohibition of driving & clearway on Clay Ln from a point 250m south of the jct. with Haley Rd South to a point 400m north of the jct. with Joy Ln. The Order will be effective from 2nd November 2026 for 4 weeks, between 7pm & 1am.
The alternative route will be via Burtonwood Rd, Westbrook Way, Cromwell Ave, A49 Winwick Rd, A49 Newton Rd, Hollins Ln, Alder Ln, Fir Tree Ln & vice versa.
The restrictions are required for Carriageway Resurfacing.

Dam Head Ln, Rixton (Prohibition of Driving) Temporary Order 2026
The effect of which will be to introduce a prohibition of driving on Dam Head Ln from its jct. with Bank St to its jct. with Glazebrook Ln. The Order will be effective from 6th October 2026 for 1 day.
The alternative route will be via Glazebrook Ln, Bank St & vice versa.
The closure is required to allow for Scottish Power Electricity North West to change an electrical pole.

The effect of which will be to introduce a prohibition of driving on Heath Ln from its jct. with Kenyon Ln to its jct. with Sandy Ln. The Order will be effective from 12th October 2026 for 5 days.
The alternative route will be via Kenyon Ln, Wilton Ln, Brosseley Ln, Common Ln, Wigshaw Ln, Mustard Ln, & vice versa.
The closure is required to allow for Scottish Power to install a new customer supply.

The effect of which is to introduce a prohibition of driving on Agden Ln from its jct. with Warrington Ln to the Borough Boundary with Cheshire East. The Order will be effective from 21st September 2026 for 1 day.
The alternative route will be via A56, Warrington Ln & vice versa.
The closure is required to allow Openreach to replace a telecom pole.

The effect of which is as follows: Prohibition of Driving: Waterworks Ln from its jct. with Winwick Link Rd to its jct. with Myddleton Ln; Myddleton Ln from its jct. with Waterworks Ln to its jct. with Golborne Rd; Temporary Suspension of The Borough of Warrington (Hornby Ln, Warrington) (One-Way) Order 2017 in its entirety.
The Order will be effective from 21st September 2026 for 12 weeks & will be carried out in phases as follows: Phase 1: Waterworks Ln 21st September 2026 to 23rd October 2026; Phase 2: Myddleton Ln 23rd October 2026 to 1st November 2026; Phase 3: Waterworks Ln 2nd November 2026 to 13th December 2026.
The alternative routes will be as follows: Waterworks Ln via Winwick Link Rd, Newton Rd, Golborne Rd, Myddleton Ln & vice versa; Myddleton Ln via Delph Ln, Mill Ln, Blackburne Ave, Birchwood Way, Oxford Green, School Rd, Long Ln, Winwick Rd, Newton Rd, Golborne Rd & vice versa.
The restrictions are required to allow for United Utilities to carry out mains Replacement works.

The effect of which is to introduce a prohibition of driving on Withers Ave from its jct. with Hallfields Rd to its jct. with Smith Dr. The Order will be effective from 18th September 2026 for 3 days.
The alternative route will be via Hallfields Rd, Orford Green, Hilden Pl & vice versa.
The closure is required to allow for Scottish Power to replace a link box.

Notice is hereby given that the Council made an Order under Section 14 of the Road Traffic Regulation Act 1984 on 26th March 2026.
The effect of which is as follows: Prohibition of Driving & Footway Closure: Bewsey Rd for its entire length; Tanners Ln from its jct. with Froghall Ln to its jct. with Winwick St; Bewsey St from its jct. with Bewsey Rd to its jct. with Edgworth St; Froghall Ln from its jct. with Tanners Ln to its jct. with Midland Way; Arthur St from its jct. with Bewsey Rd to its jct. with Paul St; Walker St from its jct. with Bewsey Rd to its jct. with Paul St; Gladstone St from its jct. with Bewsey Rd for a distance of 30m; Regency Sq from its jct. with Bewsey Rd for a distance of 30m.
The Order was effective from 13th April 2026 for 22 weeks, with the works undertaken in phases to minimise disruption, however due to several delays on site the works are now extended until 31st December 2026. The alternative route & reason for the works remains the same as previously advertised.

The alternative route will be via London Rd, Walton Rd, Chester Rd, Slutchers Ln, Wilson Patten St, Parker St, Liverpool Rd, Sankey Way, Priestley St, Froghall Ln, Midland Way, Manchester Rd, Kingsway Nth, Kingsway Sth, Knutsford Rd, Cliff Ln & vice versa.
The restrictions are required to facilitate The Warrington Running Festival.
