What is happening?

CITY OF BRISTOL

(NEW KINGSLEY ROAD, ST. PHILIPS, BRISTOL)
(TEMPORARY PROHIBITION OF USE BY VEHICLES) ORDER 2026

NOTICE is hereby given that the City Council of Bristol in pursuance of the provisions of section 14 of the Road Traffic Regulation Act 1984 as amended intend to make an Order the effect of which will be to close, temporarily, to vehicles that length of New Kingsley Road from Avon Street to Old Bread Street.

The Order is required because works are being or proposed to be executed on or near the road and will be operative from 5th October 2026 for a maximum period of eighteen months. However, the closure may not be implemented for the whole of the period, but only as necessitated by the works (which are anticipated to take place between 5th October 2026 and 9th November 2026).

ALTERNATIVE ROUTE: Avon Street, Providence Place, Old Bread Street and vice versa

(TEMPORARY PROHIBITION OF USE BY VEHICLES) ORDER 2026

NOTICE is hereby given that the City Council of Bristol in pursuance of the provisions of section 14 of the Road Traffic Regulation Act 1984 as amended intend to make an Order the effect of which will be:- 

1. to close, temporarily, to vehicles the lengths of roads specified in Schedule 1 to this Notice; and

2 to suspend, temporarily, when appropriate signs are covered, the existing one way traffic working in a south westerly direction in British Road so as to allow access and egress for vehicles.

The Order is required because works are being or are proposed to be executed on or near the roads and will be operative from 5th October 2026 for a maximum period of 18 months. 

However, the restrictions may not be implemented for the whole of the period, but only as necessitated by the works (which are anticipated to take place overnight between 5th October 2026 and 9th October 2026).

SCHEDULE 1 – Temporary Prohibition of Use by Vehicles
1. British Road – from Cannon Street south westwards for 36 metres

2. Cannon Street – from East Street north westwards for 30 metres

SCHEDULE 2 – Alternative Routes
1. East Street, West Street, Diamond Street, British Road (part unaffected)

2. north eastbound: East Street, West Street, Parson Street, Bedminster Road, Bedminster Down Road, Winterstoke Road, Luckwell Road, North Street, Cannon Street
south westbound: Cannon Street, North Street, Luckwell Road, Winterstoke Road, Bedminster Down Road, West Street, East Street
