York - Multiple Temporary Traffic Restrictions due to Works

TEMPORARY TRAFFIC RESTRICTIONS

Notice is hereby given that City of York Council (the Council), in exercise of powers under Sections 14(1) & 15(8) of the Road Traffic Regulation Act 1984 (the Act), on Thursday, 17 September 2026 in respect of the locations numbered (1), (2) & (3). Furthermore, the Council, not less than 7 days from the publication of this Notice, intends to make an Order under Section 14(1) of the Act in respect of the locations numbered (4), (5), (6), (7), (8) & (9).

(1) A1237 & HAXBY ROAD, YORK

This Order prohibits vehicles from proceeding and waiting in that length of road on A1237 and Haxby Road, York (i) on A1237 between its roundabout controlled junctions with Wigginton Road and Strensall Road (ii) on Haxby Road between the projected southern boundaries of properties known as Cooroy and Steanholme (closed roads) during the period when highway maintenance works are being undertaken thereon, commencing at 2000hrs on Monday, 21 September 2026 and ending at 0600hrs on Saturday, 26 September 2026 (works period) or at a time when the works have been completed whichever is the earlier. This is to ensure that the said works can be carried out safely. It is envisaged that the roads will be closed between 2000hrs and 0600hrs each day of the works period. An alternative route for diverted vehicles will be signed during the works period via A1237, Malton Road, Heworth Green, Monkgate, Lord Mayors Walk, Gillygate, Bootham, Clifton, Shipton Road, York Road, The Village, Mill Lane, Wigginton Road, Haxby Road. It is envisaged access for pedestrians and emergency vehicles will be maintained throughout the works period.

(2) MONKGATE YARD, YORK

This Order prohibits vehicles from proceeding and waiting in that length of road on Monkgate Yard, York between its junction with Monkgate to the projected southwestern boundary of property No. 1 (closed roads) during the period when water mains works are being undertaken thereon, commencing at 0800hrs on Monday, 21 September 2026 and ending at 1700hrs on Thursday, 22 October 2026 (works period) or at a time when the works have been completed whichever is the earlier. This is to ensure that the said works can be carried out safely. It is envisaged that access for resident and emergency vehicles will not be maintained. An alternative route for diverted vehicles will not be signed during the works period.

(3) A1079 HULL ROAD (AMENDMENT), KEXBY

This Order amends The Kexby (A1079 Hull Road) (Temporary Traffic Restriction) Order 2026 (original Order). The effect of which is to extend the works period, the said amendment to be effective from 2000 hours on Monday, 07 September 2026 and ending at 0600 hours on Monday, 21 September 2026. It is envisaged that the road will only be closed between 2000hrs and 0600hrs each day of the works period. An alternative route for diverted vehicles will be signed during the works period via A1079, A614, A63, A19 and A64. Access for resident and emergency vehicles will be maintained throughout the works period. Additionally, the order amendment restricts vehicles to a 40 miles per hour (mph) speed limit and 30 miles per hour (mph) speed limit in those lengths of road between the junction with Bore Tree Baulk and a point 222 metres North-east of its junction with Kexby Bridge Loop.

(4) KINGS SQUARE, YORK

This Order will prohibit vehicles from proceeding and waiting in that length of road on Kings Square, York between its junction with Goodramgate and a location 15 metres south-east of said junction (closed road) during the period when sewer maintenance works are being undertaken thereon, commencing at 0800hrs on Monday, 28 September 2026 and ending at 1800hrs on Saturday, 03 October 2026 (works period) or at a time when the works have been completed whichever is the earlier. This is to ensure that the said works can be carried out safely. Additionally, the ‘ONE WAY’ direction of traffic flow in Colliergate and Kings Square are suspended during the period of physical closure to allow two-way traffic flow in the said roads. An alternative route for diverted vehicles will be signed during the works period via Church Street, Parliament Street, Pavement.

(5) WALMGATE, YORK

This Order will prohibit vehicles from proceeding and waiting in that length of road on Walmgate, York between its junctions with Margaret Street and Hop Street (closed roads) during the period when water mains works are being undertaken thereon, commencing at 0400hrs on Tuesday, 29 September 2026 and ending at 0600hrs on Tuesday, 29 September 2026 (works period) or at a time when the works have been completed whichever is the earlier. This is to ensure that the said works can be carried out safely. It is envisaged that access for resident and emergency vehicles will be maintained throughout the works period. An alternative route for diverted vehicles will be signed during the works period via Foss Islands Road, Peasholme Green, The Stonebow, Pavement, Piccadilly, St Denys' Road.

(6) FOOTPATH FROM WATER END TO GARNET STREET AND BISMARCK STREET, YORK

This Order will prohibit pedestrians from proceeding and waiting in that length of footpath on Footpath from Water End to Garnet Street and Bismarck Street, York between its junction with Water End and a point 70 metres south of said junction (closed footpath) during the period when water mains works are being undertaken thereon, commencing at 0800hrs on Thursday, 01 October 2026 and ending at 1800hrs on Thursday, 22 October 2026 (works period) or at a time when the works have been completed whichever is the earlier. This is to ensure that the said works can be carried out safely. An alternative route for diverted pedestrians will be signed during the works period via Water End, Millennium Green, diversion for cyclists will also be signed during the works period.

(7) LINCOLN STREET, YORK

This Order will prohibit vehicles from proceeding and waiting in that length of road on Lincoln Street, York between its junction with Salisbury Road and a location 9 metres north-east of said junction (closed roads) during the period when water mains works are being undertaken thereon, commencing at 1900hrs on Tuesday, 29 September 2026 and ending at 0600hrs on Wednesday, 30 September 2026 (works period) or at a time when the works have been completed whichever is the earlier. This is to ensure that the said works can be carried out safely. It is envisaged that access will be maintained for resident and emergency vehicles. An alternative route for diverted vehicles will not be signed during the works period.

(8) HAXBY ROAD, YORK

This Order will prohibit vehicles from proceeding and waiting in that length of road on Haxby Road, York between its roundabout controlled junction with Haley's Terrace and the entrance to Nuffield Health York Hospital (closed roads) during the period when highway remedial works are being undertaken thereon, commencing at 2000hrs on Tuesday, 29 September 2026 and ending at 0600hrs on Thursday, 01 October 2026 (works period) or at a time when the works have been completed whichever is the earlier. This is to ensure that the said works can be carried out safely. It is envisaged that the road will be closed between 2000hrs and 0600hrs each day of the works period. Access will be maintained for resident and emergency vehicles. An alternative route for diverted vehicles will be signed during the works period via Haley's Terrace, Huntington Road, Monkgate, Lord Mayors Walk, Clarence Street.

(9) YORK TRAIN STATION SOUTH TRAIN SHED ACCESS ROAD, YORK

This Order will prohibit vehicles from performing a right hand turn from that length of road on York Train Station South Train Shed access road, York into Queen Street, York (restricted road) during the period when station gateway works are being undertaken thereon, commencing at 0001hrs on Saturday, 26 September 2026 and ending at 2359hrs on Sunday, 26 March 2028 (works period) or at a time when the works have been completed whichever is the earlier. This is to ensure that the said works can be carried out safely.

The above temporary Orders will not prohibit works or emergency access nor will they prohibit access to premises provided that access is not prevented by on-going works or safety concerns. Traffic flows/barriers will indicate the extent of the prohibitions/restrictions.
