THE CITY OF SUNDERLAND
(BURDON ROAD PROHIBITTION OF WAITING, LOADING AND PARKING PLACES) TRAFFIC ORDER 2026
NOTICE is given that on 16 th September 2026 Sunderland City Council made an Order under Sections 1, 2, 4, 45, 46, 49 and 122 and Part IV of Schedule 9 of the Road Traffic Regulation Act 1984, by virtue of the Traffic Management Act 2004 and all other enabling powers and after consultation with the Chief Officer of Police in accordance with Part III of Schedule 9 of the Act.
The Order will come into operation on 25 th September 2026, and the effect of the Order will introduce no waiting at anytime restrictions on the roads in Schedule 1. Introduce prohibition of loading and unloading at any time restrictions on the roads in Schedule 1.
Introduce on-street pay and display parking places operating all days between 8.00am – 6.00pm with a charge of £1.00 per hour or part thereof or £3.50 per day on those sections of roads in Schedule 2 below; and revoke the items in Schedule 3 in their entirety from the City of Sunderland (City Centre Area) Waiting Loading and Parking Places) Order 2016.
Documents giving more detailed particulars of the Order may be inspected during normal opening hours at City Hall, Plater Way, Sunderland SR1 3AA, until six weeks have elapsed from the date on which the Order quoting reference: PB/83342.
Any person wishing to question the validity of the Order or of any of its provisions on the grounds that it or they are not within the powers conferred by the Act or on the grounds that any requirement of that Act or of any instrument made under the Act has not been complied with may within six weeks from the date on which the Order is made apply for the purpose to the High Court.
Schedule 1 No Waiting and Loading and Unloading at anytime Burdon Road, Sunderland
(i) the west side from a point 147.5 south of the extended party property boundary of 1 and 2 & 3 Burdon Road, for a distance of 37.7 metres in a southerly direction.
(ii) the west side from a point 215.3 south of the extended party property boundary of 1 and 2 & 3 Burdon Road, for a distance of 3.7 metres in a southerly direction.
Schedule 2 Pay and Display Parking All Days 8.00am – 6.00pm Burdon Road
(i) the west side from a point 185.2 south of the extended party property boundary of 1 and 2 & 3 Burdon Road, for a distance of 30.1 metres in a southerly direction.
(ii) the west side from a point 219.0 south of the extended party property boundary of 1 and 2 & 3 Burdon Road, for a distance of 17.2 metres in a southerly direction.
Schedule 3 Schedule 1.01 No waiting at any time Burdon Road, Hendon, Sunderland
(i) the west side from a point 176.7 metres south of the intersection of its western kerb line and the extended southern kerb line of Borough Road, for a distance of 6.2 metres in a southerly direction.
(ii) the west side from a point 233.0 metres north of the intersection of its western kerb line and the extended northern kerb line of Park Road, for a distance of 32.5 metres in a northerly direction.
Schedule 2.01 Prohibition of loading & unloading: At any time Burdon Road, Hendon, Sunderland
(i) the west side from a point 176.7 metres south of the intersection of its western kerb line and the extended southern kerb line of Park Road, for a distance of 6.2 metres in a southerly direction.
(ii) the west side from a point 233.0 metres north of the intersection of its western kerb line and the extended northern kerb line of Park Road, for a distance of 32.5 metres in a northerly direction.
Schedule 4.41 Parking Monday to Saturday, 8am-6pm 2 Hour limit. No return within 1 Hour Burdon Road, Hendon, Sunderland
(i) the west side from a point 216.0 metres north of the intersection of its western kerb line and the extended northern kerb line of Park Road, for a distance of 17.0 metres in a northerly direction.
Schedule 7.435 Pay & Display Parking Mon-Sat 8am-6pm, excluding Christmas Day Burdon Road, Hendon, Sunderland
(i) the west side from a point 182.6 metres south of the intersection of its extended western kerb line with the extended southern kerb line of Borough Road, for a distance of 36.0 metres in a southerly direction.
