M5 Motorway, Junction 11 To 12 - Temporary Restriction And Prohibition Of Traffic To Bridge Demolition

THE M5 MOTORWAY (JUNCTION 11 TO 12)
(TEMPORARY RESTRICTION AND PROHIBITION OF TRAFFIC) ORDER 2026

NOTICE IS HEREBY GIVEN that National Highways Limited (a) intends to make an Order on the M5 Motorway in Gloucestershire to enable bridge demolition and associated maintenance to be carried out in safety.

The works are expected to take place on or after 4 October 2026 and be completed by 9 November 2026.

The effect of the Order will be to:

(a) authorise the weekend (21.00 Friday to 06.00 Monday) closure of:

(i) the M5 southbound and northbound between Junctions 11 and 12;

(ii) the southbound entry and northbound exit slip roads at M5 Junction 11;

(iii) the northbound and southbound entry and exit slip roads at M5 Junction 11A;

(iv) the northbound and southbound entry and exit slip roads at Gloucester Service Area;

(v) the northbound entry and southbound exit slip roads at M5 Junction 12;

(b) impose a mandatory 50 speed limit during the above closures on:

(i) M5 southbound from 1000 metres north of Old Gloucester Road overbridge to the southbound exit slip road at M5 Junction 11;

(ii) M5 northbound from 200 metres south of Standish Lane overbridge to the northbound exit slip road at M5 Junction 12

(c) authorise the 24 hour closure of the northbound exit slip road at M5 Junction 11A

During the closures traffic will be diverted via junctions of the M5 and local roads.

The temporary mandatory speed limits (which would not apply to emergency service or special forces vehicles), closures, width restrictions, and diversion routes would be clearly indicated by traffic signs throughout the works period and would only apply when traffic management measures are in place.

The Order would come into force on 2 October 2026 and have a maximum duration of eighteen months.
