What is happening?
THE SCOTTISH BORDERS COUNCIL
(WORLD SHEEP DOG CHAMPIONSHIPS)
(TEMPORARY TRAFFIC REGULATION) ORDER 2026
The Scottish Borders Council have made the above Order under Section 14(1) of the Road Traffic Regulation Act 1984 as amended. The Order, which has a maximum duration of 18 months, will come into force on 14 September 2026, and is expected to remain in effect for a period of seven days until 20 September 2026, as detailed below. The closure is required in the interests of road safety due to increased traffic attending the World Sheep Dog Championships.
When the Order comes into effect, in the interests of road safety, no person shall:
(a) drive or cause or permit to be driven any vehicle along:
(i) the A697 from the A68 at Carfraemill to the B6362 Thirlestane Road; and
(ii) the C85 Newbigging Road – except for local access;
from 16 September 2026 to 20 September 2026 between the hours of 06:00 and 20:30 each day.
The alternative southbound route for vehicles 7.5T and under is via the A68 and B6362 to the point of closure, for northbound traffic, the reverse of the foregoing.
The alternative southbound route for vehicles over 7.5T is via the A68, A6105 and A6089 to the point of closure, for northbound traffic, the reverse of the foregoing; and
(b) no person shall drive or cause or permit to be driven any vehicle at a speed exceeding 30mph along the A697 from the A68 at Carfraemill to the B6362 Thirlestane Road from 08:00 on 14 September 2026 to 21:00 on 20 September 2026.
