TEMPORARY TRAFFIC REGULATION ORDER 2026

Sunderland City Council gives notice that it intends to make an Order under Section 14(1) of the Road Traffic Regulation Act 1984, the effect of which will be to temporarily prohibiting all vehicular traffic along the roads described in the Schedule below. The Order is required to enable re-surfacing works on or near the road. The Order will come into operation on 2nd November 2026. The maximum duration of the closure under the Order will be 18 months, however it is estimated the closures on each phase, will only be in operation for approximately 5 days from the commencement of the works on that phase and only during off-peak hours and/or weekends. All vehicles will be prohibited from the roads in the Schedule below (except vehicles involved in the works) until the works are completed or at such times and to such extent as may from time to time be indicated by the display of traffic signs. Diversions will be provided via the adjacent highway network. SCHEDULE Phase one: Hastings Hill Roundabout A183 Chester Road from its junction with A19 to its junction with Bonavista Drive. Sevenoaks Drive from its junction with A183, Chester Road to the access / egress of Hastings Hill Public House. Prestbury Road from its junction with A183, Chester Road to its junction with Pickering Road. Phase two: Greenwood Road A183, Chester Road from its junction with Bonavista Drive to and including its junction with Greenwood Road. Greenwood Road from its junction with A183, Chester Road to its junction with Gardiner Road. Phase three: Pennywell Road A183, Chester Road from its junction with Pennywell Road to its junction with Grindon Gardens. Grindon Court from its junction with A183, Chester Road to its junction with Grindon Park. Phase four: The Broadway, the Broadway from its junction with Grindon Lane to its junction with Springwell Road. Glamis Avenue from its junction with The Broadway to its junction with Gifford Square. Glenleigh Drive from its junction with the Broadway for a distance of 25 metres in a southerly direction.
