Newton Aycliffe - Temporary Footpath Closures due to Gas Main Replacement Works

What is happening?

The County Council of Durham (Luttrynton, Hambleton, Jesmond and Claxton Courts, Newton Aycliffe) (Temporary Footpath Closure) Order 2026

The Council proposes to make an Order under Section 14(1) of the Road Traffic Regulation Act 1984 as amended, to prohibit all pedestrian traffic from proceeding on the following lengths of footpath.

Luttrynton Court: A 30 metre length to the front of No. 1-3; a 21 metre length to the front of No. 5-7; a 31 metre length to the front of No. 9-12 and a 19 metre length to the front of No. 14-15.

Hambleton Court: A 19 metre length to the front of No. 21-22; a 13 metre length to the front of No. 7-8; an 11 metre length to the front of No. 10-11; an 11 metre length to the front of No. 12-14; a 6 metre length to the front of No. 16 and an 8 metre length to the front of No. 17-18.

Jesmond Court: A 14 metre length to the side and front of No. 23; an 8 metre length to the front of No. 21-22; a 7 metre length to the front of No. 19; a 10 metre length to the front of No. 17-18; a 10 metre length to the front of No. 12-14 and a 20 metre length to the front of No. 9-10.

Claxton Court: A 19 metre length to the front of No. 1-2; a 12 metre length to the front of No. 3-4; a 6 metre length to the front of No. 7; a 9 metre length to the front of No. 9; a 10 metre length to the front of No. 10-11; a 9 metre length to the front of No. 12-14 and a 27 metre length to the front of No. 16-17 and side of No. 17 to enable gas main replacement works to be undertaken.

Throughout the period of the closure any alternative diversion available to pedestrian traffic will be signposted on site. The maximum duration of the Order is 6 months. The proposed works are required from 8am on Monday 28/9/2026 and for the duration of the works anticipated to be 15 weeks. On occasions, alternative dates for the closure may be necessary and these will be signed on site accordingly.
