Southend-on-Sea - Temporary Road Closures due to Better Queensway Project Works

ROAD TRAFFIC REGULATION ACT 1984 – SECTION 14(1)

TEMPORARY PROHIBITION OF TRAFFIC ORDER 2026

QUEENSWAY (A1160) SLIP ROAD SOUTHEAST & QUEENSWAY (A1160) SOUTHEND ON SEA

Notice is hereby given that Southend-on-Sea City Council intends, no less than seven days from the date of this notice, to make the above Order under Section 14(1) of the Road Traffic Regulation Act 1984.

The Effect of the order will be to prohibit any vehicle from; -

1. Entering Queensway (A1160) Slip Road Southeast at its junction with Porters Grange Roundabout to York Road.

2. Entering Queensway (A1160) Northbound at its junction with Queensway & Chancellor Road Roundabout to York Road.

The closure is scheduled to commence from;-

1. Queensway Slip Road Southeast from 05:00 on the 21st September 2026 until 23:59 on 2nd October 2026 or where appropriate signs are showing and weather permitting

2. Queensway Northbound will be closed on the 1st October between the hours of 06:00 till 07:00 or where appropriate signs are showing and weather permitting

The alternative route will be via;-

1. Queensway Slip Road Southeast – Southchurch Road & Southchurch Avenue.

2. Queensway Northbound – Chancellor Road, Church Road, Heygate Avenue & Chichester Road.

The Order will come into effect on 21st September 2026 and may continue in force for 18 months or until the works have been completed, whichever is the earlier.

The closure is required for the safety of the public and workforce whilst Better Queensway project works takes place and to ensure safe working conditions throughout the construction period.

Access for emergency vehicles, residents and pedestrians will be maintained at all times during the closure.

The prohibitions or restrictions will apply only during such time and to such extent as indicated by traffic signs prescribed by the TRAFFIC SIGNS REGULATIONS AND GENERAL DIRECTIONS 2016.

Any vehicle waiting in contravention of any restriction/prohibition imposed by this Notice may be issued with a Penalty Charge Notice and removed under the provisions of the Traffic Management Act 2004.
