A31 TRUNK ROAD – BERE REGIS TO ROUNDHOUSE
TEMPORARY TRAFFIC RESTRICTIONS
Notice is hereby given that National Highways Limited intends to make an Order on the A31 Trunk Road in the County of Dorset, under Section 14(1)(a) of the Road Traffic Regulation Act 1984 because works are proposed to be executed on the road.
The effect of the Order would be to authorise the 24-hour and overnight closures of:
1. both carriageways of the A31 between Bere Regis Roundabout (A35) and Roundhouse Roundabout (A350);
2. all side roads at junction with the carriageways described in 1) above; and
3. all lay-bys and bus-stops adjacent to the carriageways described in 1) above.
These measures would be in the interests of road safety while contractors undertake resurfacing works and all associated work.
It is expected that the work would last for approximately 4 weeks starting on or after Monday 5th October 2026. The overnight closure of the carriageways would take place between 21:00 and 06:00 (maximum period). In addition a total weekend closure is proposed from Friday 16th October at 21:00 hours to Monday 19th October at 06:00 hours. The lay-bys and bus-stops will remain closed 24 hours.
The Order would come into force on 3rd October 2026 and have a maximum duration of eighteen months, ceasing when the works are complete.
Traffic affected by the closures would be diverted using the A35 and A350 in either direction. Access to properties and to farm areas fronting the road would be maintained under escort.
The temporary closures and diversion routes would be clearly indicated by traffic signs when they are in operation during the works period.
