What is happening?
READING BOROUGH COUNCIL
(WESTERN ELMS AVENUE) (TEMPORARY ROAD RESTRICTIONS) ORDER 2026
Reading Borough Council intends to make an Order under section 14(1)(a) of the Road Traffic Regulation Act 1984. The effect of the Order will be to temporarily:
1. Close the carriageway outside no’s 44-55 Western Elms Avenue, inclusive.
2. Suspend the parking bay restrictions and introduce a no stopping, waiting or loading restriction, outside and opposite no’s 40-59 Western Elms Avenue.
The restrictions referred to above shall not apply to vehicles being used by, or on behalf of, contractor or its subcontractors, in connection with the works.
If made, the Order will take effect from 01-04 October 2026. The restrictions will only apply when indicated by on-site traffic signs. Should the works extend beyond the anticipated duration, the Order may remain in force for up to 18 months, or until the works are completed, whichever is sooner. The Order is necessary in the interest of public safety whilst essential sewer rehabilitation works are carried out. A signed diversion route will be in place throughout.
(WYKEHAM ROAD) (TEMPORARY ROAD RESTRICTIONS) ORDER 2026
Reading Borough Council intends to make an Order under section 14(1)(a) of the Road Traffic Regulation Act 1984. The effect of the Order will be to temporarily:
1. Close Wykeham Road between Grange Avenue and Palmer Park Avenue.
2. Suspend the waiting restrictions on both sides of the carriageway on Wykeham Road, from its junction with Palmer Park Avenue to outside and opposite the side of no.121 Grange Avenue.
3. Introduce a no stopping, waiting or loading restriction in the suspended bays in Wykeham Road, from its junction with Palmer Park Avenue, outside and opposite the side of no.121 Grange Avenue.
The restrictions referred to above shall not apply to vehicles being used by, or on behalf of, contractor or its subcontractors, in connection with the works.
If made, the Order will take effect from 21 September to 03 October 2026. The restrictions will only apply when indicated by on-site traffic signs. Should the works extend beyond the anticipated duration, the Order may remain in force for up to 18 months, or until the works are completed, whichever is sooner. The Order is necessary in the interest of public safety whilst carriage re-alignment works are carried out. A signed diversion route will be in place throughout.
(KELVEDON WAY) (TEMPORARY ROAD RESTRICTIONS) ORDER 2026
Reading Borough Council intends to make an Order under section 14(1)(a) of the Road Traffic Regulation Act 1984. The effect of the Order will be to temporarily:
1. Close Kelvedon Way from its junction with Conisboro Avenue to a point outside and including No. 9 Kelvedon Way.
2. Introduce a no stopping, waiting or loading restriction on both sides of Kelvedon Way, from its junction with Conisboro Avenue to a point outside and opposite No. 9 Kelvedon Way, inclusive.
The restrictions referred to above shall not apply to vehicles being used by, or on behalf of, contractor or its subcontractors, in connection with the works.
If made, the Order will take effect from 23-25 September 2026. The restrictions will only apply when indicated by on-site traffic signs. Should the works extend beyond the anticipated duration, the Order may remain in force for up to 18 months, or until the works are completed, whichever is sooner. The Order is necessary in the interest of public safety to allow excavation and installation works within the footway and carriageway.
(BATH ROAD) (TEMPORARY ROAD RESTRICTIONS) ORDER 2026
Reading Borough Council intends to make an Order under section 14(1)(a) of the Road Traffic Regulation Act 1984. The effect of the Order will be to temporarily suspend the eastbound bus lane along Bath Road between 48 and 44 Bath Road.
If made, the Order will take effect for one day on 18 October 2026. The restrictions will only apply when indicated by on-site traffic signs. Should the works extend beyond the anticipated duration, the Order may remain in force for up to 18 months, or until the works are completed, whichever is sooner. The Order is necessary in the interest of public safety whilst utilities within the carriageway are accessed.
(FOOTPATH 25 (PART) READING) (TEMPORARY FOOTPATH CLOSURE) ORDER 2026
Reading Borough Council intends to make an Order under section 14(1) of the Road Traffic Regulation Act 1984. The effect of the Order will be to temporarily prohibit pedestrians and cyclists from proceeding along Footpath 25, Reading, from its junction with Footpath 1 (Caversham Lock) to the northern end of the weir, a distance of approximately 150 metres.
The diversion route will be as follows:
Follow footpath 24 at the point where footpath 24 and 25 meet through Hills Meadow to the ramp up to George Street. Once on George Street continue over Reading Bridge turning left at Napier Road and George Street roundabout. Take the first left on Napier Road and continue along Kings Meadow Road to the river turning right at the end of the road to join Footpath 1 (Caversham Lock) and vice versa.
The purpose of the closure is because of the likelihood of danger to the public during external works to the EA Waterways Navigation office and the lockkeeper’s boundary garden wall adjacent to the footpath.
The Order will come into operation on 21-25 September 2026 unless extended by a direction made under section 15(3) or 15(5) of the Road Traffic Regulation Act 1984.
